At our May 7th parent group, we will have guest speakers Ally Coggins joining us to talk about pelvic floor health.

Ally is a physical therapist at White Mountain Physical Therapy who is beginning to specialize in pelvic floor rehabilitation. She will discuss common pelvic floor concerns during pregnancy and postpartum, including urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Ally will also share gentle pelvic floor strengthening and relaxation techniques that can help support your body during pregnancy and prepare for childbirth.

Laboring in water can offer comfort, mobility, and a sense of calm. Warmth helps muscles relax, contractions can feel more manageable, and many find it easier to follow their body’s natural rhythm.

What was the most helpful thing your support people did for you during labor?
Was it physical comfort, quiet presence, encouragement, advocacy… something else?

Working with the next generation of providers!

Danielle and Acadia had the chance to spend some time at University of New England working with PA students and sharing a little of the midwife’s approach to care.

Grateful for opportunities like this to connect across professions and help bring our perspective as midwives to future hospital providers.

Welcome to the newest member of this beautiful family! There is something so special about being invited back to support...

Our Story

Home birth midwifery and wellcare for families in Maine

S**opee Valley Birthing Services

was born in 1994 and is now collectively managed by four midwives. Brenda Surabian, Lindsay Bushnell, Jodie Kaufman and Robin Illian share the responsibility equally which allows us to make midwifery sustainable for our families and provide you with experienced, client centered care.

The practice name describes the the Abenaki lands of the S**o and Ossipee River Valley where the practice started. We are grateful to be able to visit with our clients at one of our home offices near the confluence of the S**o and Ossipee Rivers. This area is peaceful, yet powerful...as birth is.
