Who writes the eulogy and obituary?
In some cases, the eulogy, life story or obituary was written by the decedent themselves ahead of time. In others, a family member or friend writes the eulogy or obituary. If the decedent has written a biography, that can be used as a starting point to write a life story for the person. There are also templates that can be used to gather information to write a life story of a person.

What is the difference between a cemetery and a memorial park?
Memorial parks are a newer type of cemetery introduced about 75 years ago. They are parks and gardens where memorials (instead of tombstones) are placed level with the ground to blend with the beauty of the landscape. They often feature expansive lawns with a variety of trees, flower beds and gardens, as well as benches, memorial statues to create reflective landscaping.
A traditional cemetery has a variety of tombstones from upright monuments, usually made of stone to flat markers. Because many have functioned in their communities for over 100 years, traditional cemeteries typically contain a great deal of history.

What does direct cremation mean?
A simple direct cremation means that there is no visitation or formal ceremony held. After the funeral home receives the decedent into their care, they will work with the family to file a death certificate. Once a cremation authorization is filed, the funeral home will proceed with the cremation. The family will then receive the cremated remains in a standard urn.

Cremations have become a popular choice. We’ll help you through the cremation process and then in creating a sacred space for cremated remains.

The Department of Veterans Affairs provides two types of medallions, by request, to be affixed to an existing, privately purchased headstone or marker to signify the deceased's status as a Veteran or Veteran/Servicemember who is also a Medal of Honor recipient.

The bronze medallion is available in three sizes: Small (2"W x 1-1/2"H x 1/3"D), Medium (3-3/4"W x 2-7/8"H x 1/4"D), or Large (6-3/8"W x 4-3/4"H x 1/2"D). Each medallion is inscribed with the word "VETERAN" across the top and the branch of service at the bottom.
