🇺🇸 Thursday, November 20th is the Great American Smokeout, a day set aside by the American Cancer Society to encourage smokers to give up to***co, at least for one day, and to think about quitting for good.

These days, most people have a pretty good understanding of the harms caused by cigarette smoking, but about 1 in 5 Indiana adults still smoke. Smokers have a high risk of developing lung cancer, heart disease, and many other types of cancer. Smoking also increases the damage of chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma and can increase the risk of strokes.

🚭 We can support Hoosier smokers attempting to quit by encouraging participation in the Great American Smoke Out on November 20th, and also through free resources such as the Indiana To***co Quitline.

Indiana residents ages 13 and over can contact the Quitline by calling 1-800-Quit-Now, texting READY to 34191, or visiting www.QuitNowIndiana.com.

Not as Easy as You Think

Parents—please understand: the ni****ne addiction kids are facing through v**es is intense and very real.

If the school calls to say your child was caught va**ng, take it seriously. This isn’t something a few drug classes or a short phone grounding will fix. Va**ng is not a phase—it’s a powerful addiction that sticks.

From the teens I’ve personally spoken with, about 95% of the kids I’ve caught va**ng are still va**ng. That should concern every parent reading this.

If you have a middle school / high schooler, do a quick backpack and car check. You might be surprised what you find.

Va**ng is not harmless. It’s a life-altering decision that affects your child—and eventually, their future family. Please treat it that way.

Chrisney Elementary 6th Grade Students participated in a Red Ribbon Week presentation about the harmful effects of to***co, ni****ne, e-cigarettes and va**ng devices.

Great job, Wildcats!

Students learned that ni****ne from a v**e or e-cigarette is a highly addictive drug that reaches your brain in as little as 7 seconds after being inhaled.

Ni****ne also affects major organs such as: your brain, your lungs, your stomach, your skin, and your mouth.

Education and prevention is KEY!
