Are you new to my page? New to Nebraska? Let me be the first to say welcome! I love all things orthodontics, facial orthopedics, and medical in general. My goal is to provide the best and latest healthcare there is to offer. I have trained with some of the best doctors in the world and am excited to bring it to Nebraska.
A bit about me: I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, and graduated from Lincoln Southwest. I went to the University of Nebraska for my undergraduate education, graduating with degrees in Finance and Economics with an emphasis in Banking and Financial Institutions. I then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center to earn my Doctor of Dental Surgery. I went on to my first hospital residency training at the Nebraska Medical Center, Children’s Hospital, and the Omaha VA Hospital. Some of my training included oral medicine, surgery, and orofacial trauma. I was also a provider on the craniofacial team at the Children’s Hospital. I then continued my training at a second residency program in Southern California, pursuing specialty training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, in conjunction with a Master of Science degree. I have a passion for clinical research and have had multiple publications. Previous research includes squamous cell carcinoma and Sjogren’s syndrome. I also had a tenure at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
I am one of the only dual residency trained specialists in Lincoln. My practice includes the full scope of orthodontics and craniofacial orthopedics for children and adults. I also have special interests in pediatric craniofacial development, surgical/non-surgical orthodontics and facial orthopedics, Invisalign, airway development, sleep apnea, and working with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, golfing, financial markets, wood working and the Huskers! I love my community and enjoy many local service projects. My wife, the other Dr. Essink, is a Physician in Omaha and is also pursuing specialty training in Allergy and Immunology. Lincoln will be so blessed to have her as well! We love being part of a great community!
