5 years ago we followed Ben Hauter's idea for Direct Primary Care where patients can contract directly with a doctor for a monthly fee. Well, it took off. Several other clinics like ours are sprouting up throughout the United States! Let's hope this is the fix for the broken medical system!

Warning! I am about to rant !!
In the past year I have diagnosed three people with cancer. Two people were so delayed in their referral treatment that treatment options became dramatically reduced. What I mean is that their cancer spread over the months of waiting to get a battle plan for treatment. One died prior to being seen, one had spread of the disease that put them in a palliative care only option, and the third is out 8 months from diagnosis and has spread of the disease and is still waiting for treatment!
This is unacceptable in the United States of America! We do not have universal health Care with rationing of treatment. These failures are due to an incompetent system with insurance delaying the decision for treatment.
I ask for three things;
1) Fellow Primary Care Physicians- Rattle the cage of your consultants so that your patients get in to be seen more timely. Lives depend on it! Spend the time on pre-authorization and get a peer review if denied.
2) Consultants- Realize that my referral to you is to help my patient decrease the fear of the unknown and to set up a battle plan for their problem. Insurance payments will come and the liability is not on the insurance company but on us physicians. Just because the insurance company doesn't pay does not mean it is not a warranted procedure or treatment!!
3) And patients- Do not accept this as the standard of care in the United States. It is not acceptable!

I have had enough of this broken medical system and I plan to work "the system" for better outcomes!
