I've been quoting Mr. Rogers quite a bit lately.
Remember to look for the helpers; see the good in the world.
Remember you are a helper; the good in the world.
You've got this. You don't have to do it alone.

Just because we may not be able to do all the things doesn't mean the things we can do don't matter. They still matter, they still make a difference.
Remember to focus on what you can do today, in this moment. You've got this; we're in this together.

11/06/2024

Hold yourself gently and lightly, extra today.
You are not alone, there is good in our world.
It's ok to take breaks; come back.
It's ok to acknowledge the hard; look for the good.
It's ok to visit grief; don't move in and unpack.
It's ok to feel emotions; pause and make wise decisions.
It's ok to feel uncertain; find your feet.
It's ok to question; remember your values.
It's ok to keep going; be the change.
You've got this. We've got this. Please don't do this alone.

"At least" can be incredibly invalidating.
It is not comforting. It is not helpful.
---
Instead, try saying "That sounds really hard. What is that like for you?" or "I don't even know what to say. I'm here for you."
That is going to be a lot more supportive and helpful than minimizing their pain/struggle.
~You've got this.~

The Three P's in grief work to be mindful of:
Personalization - "It's my fault"
Pervasiveness - "this affects every single thing"
Permanence - "Nothing will ever be the same again"
---
These are common thoughts/self-talk when we are suffering.
While there may be "some" truth in these statements, our suffering can distort them into all or nothing statements.
We need to be mindful of these beliefs so that we do not end up living in them.
-Focus on the here and now, what you can control, with self-compassion, one step at a time.
And remember to stay hydrated with water.

It's WAY more useful to respond to your mind with compassion than judgment. "It doesn't know any better."
We get to work in pilot mode and create the changes we want.

My 4 y/o covered her little mirror with stickers. Of course she did. That's what 4 y/o's do. I spent an hour last night cleaning them off, having to use Goo Gone amongst multiple utensils to remove that sticky left-over residue. It took way more work than I actually wanted to do, than I had even planned on...but now the stickers are off and she can use the mirror again to see things a little clearer.
---
Things we think or say that keep us stuck:
"It's hard"
"I don't know"
"But"
"What if"
"When I feel like it"
"When I have time"
"I'll do it later"
"I know, but"
"What's the point/use?"
"I don't care"
---
Check your mirror, yo!
