My friend and colleague Lindsay McCoy has been creating online content to help pregnant people be ready to give birth for years and her content is SO amazing! Now she has created a program to help partners be ready to give the best support during birth! This is going to be so incredibly useful and I wish it had been available when I was pregnant. Getting motivated to get moving is so much harder when it’s cold outside, amiright? But it feels so much better to keep moving, amialsoright?
You know what helps? Having a trainer to meet at the gym who will plan a fun and effective workout for you! You know what’s even better? Meeting a friend (or 2), also!

I did it! I reached my goal of being rated over 800 by the end of the year! I steadily increased all year with the exception of Jan-Feb when I stayed the same. I injured my shoulder in January so I’m not surprised by that slump at all, and that encouraged me to create a program that has made my shoulders feel better than ever!
Now, to plan new goals for the new year…

Goal setting. I love helping clients find goals that are really meaningful for them. Goals need to be specific, measurable, achievable and have some sort of time constraint and, in my opinion, they also need to have relavance that brings joy.

My own movement/fitness goals have varied wildly over the years and this year I only set one goal–to raise my PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) rating to 800. I started playing tournaments just over a year ago at a 720 rating. I have slowly made progress all year. This past weekend I played my last tournament of 2022 and now I wait to see if my rating increases 7 points or more…
The PDGA only updates ratings once a month so I’ll let you know when the results come out in December.🤞🏼

A few months ago I injured my shoulder playing disc golf—it was actually black and blue from an over-use injury. In addition, I was dealing with tennis and golfer’s elbow nagging me regularly. Since I’m a personal trainer I knew all the right things to do to get warmed up and work on strength and range of motion and I could get myself back on the course but it was always a niggling issue and I definitely never really felt *stronger*.
So, I decided it was time to get really serious about this and figure out what it was going to take to have that actually feel great throwing, not just ”get by”. So I did. I took a collaboration class from a sports therapist that specializes in baseball and a connective tissue expert, I dug into the latest info on rebuilding and strengthening connective tissue, I took the whole system into account and created a program that has my shoulders feeling better than they ever have! I’m still using it and will continue to because connective tissue is slow growing but it absolutely makes you more bulletproof!
Pretty much daily I see/hear disc golfers and other athletes discussing their own injuries and I feel compelled to tell everyone what I did to heal my , and , but it’s not simple enough to throw it in a post or have a short chat. Getting serious about shoulder health can be complicated because it’s a complex system! So I’ve decided to create a protocol that I can share far and wide. Don’t worry, I won’t spam you—I have even less interest in sending spam than you have in receiving it. 😊
I’m also open to any suggestions of format that will make compliance easier for you. I’m trying to create something people *will do*! It is not a quick fix.

One of my favorite parts of being a trainer is helping people find their joy in movement! The fitness industry can be so toxic with many goals being focused on changing what you don’t like about yourself or what you “should” be doing. What a buzz kill! Movement should be fun! I love how The Bioneer approaches the topic.
