Every once in a while, we get to witness something extraordinary.
A few weeks ago, Todd (57 years old) came to The Grace Space on hospice after suffering a massive stroke. His condition was serious, and like many families facing that moment, his loved ones were preparing for the possibility that time might be short.
But on the second day of his stay… something began to change.
He started moving the side of his body that the stroke had affected. He began trying to communicate. Soon he was feeding himself and eating full meals.
Then the progress continued.
With our staff's encouragement, he began walking. Day by day he grew a little stronger. He started helping with dressing, communicating his needs, and along the way he formed a special bond with the staff here at The Grace Space.
And we fell in love with him right back.
Yesterday, we did something we almost never get to do in hospice care.
We sent him to inpatient acute stroke rehabilitation.
Moments like this are incredibly rare. Hospice care is usually about helping people live their final days with comfort and dignity. But sometimes, God writes a different chapter.
We truly believe His hand has been in every step of this journey, and the prayers of many have been answered.
When he left yesterday, there were tears and hugs all around. He was emotional, and so were we.
We can’t wait for the day he walks back through our doors just to visit.
Please continue to keep him and his family in your prayers as he begins this next stage of recovery.
Sometimes the most beautiful reminders of hope show up when we least expect them.
Thank you to St. Croix hospice for helping Todd and his wife Monica in this journey.
We are rooting for you Todd and we will NEVER forget you! PS Don't be a Bitterman!!!
