Dr. Theodore Pham was born and raised in Houston, Texas.

After college, he wanted a change of pace and left for medical school in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he met his wife and joined the Air Force. He then completed his residency training in Brooklyn, New York, spending the last 6 months of residency managing patients through the start of the COVID pandemic in NYC. Upon finishing residency, his family packed up and moved to Nebraska to begin his Active Duty service as a Pediatrician at Offutt Air Force Base. While serving, he was able to deploy in support of Operation Allies Welcome. During this deployment he screened and evaluated Afghan refugees and helped prepare them for settlement in the US.

Though his time in the service has come to a close, he is excited to continue his career in pediatrics here in Nebraska. He has a passion for building relationships with patients and their families and working together towards healthy goals.

When not at work, you can find him exploring the local museums and parks with his family and looking for that next great place to eat. He also enjoys the occasional video game and board game if he finds the time.

Screens are part of everyday life — and it’s not just about limiting screen time anymore. The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages families to focus on quality, balance, and open conversations around digital media.

Talking with your kids about what they’re watching and doing online, setting healthy boundaries, and protecting time for sleep, play, and family connection can make a big difference.

A new study in JAMA Pediatrics reviewing 153 longitudinal studies found that digital media use in children and teens is linked with modest but consistent risks to health and development.

Social media use was associated with:
• Higher depression and behavioral problems
• Increased self-injury thoughts and substance use
• Lower self-perception and academic achievement

The takeaway: helping kids build healthy digital habits and balance with offline activities is important for their development.
