Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pulaski Cemetery in Mt. Pulaski on Saturday, November 15, 2025, with Rev. Jonathon Buescher officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Pulaski Cemetery.

Wanda Sue Meister was born on January 27, 1936, in Mt. Pulaski, the daughter of Floyd Alfred and Evelena Louise Wilson Meister. She was united in marriage to Harold A. Tendick on July 26, 1959. He preceded Wanda in death on June 6, 2015.

She is survived her sons: Gary Tendick and Steven (Jennifer) Tendick; two grandchildren: Ashley Tendick and Cooper Tendick; one sister: Carol Brock, and two brothers: Edward Meister and James Meister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sisters: Alice Blakeman and Mary Rohrer.

Wanda graduated from the Illiopolis High School in 1954. She was employed by FBFM for thirty-three years.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pulaski.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or School in Mt. Pulaski.

Lincoln -- Doris A. Wonsavage, 82, of Lincoln passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Mason City Area Nursing Home in Mason City.

Graveside Services for Doris will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at St. Mary's Cemetery in rural Lincoln.

Doris Ann Wonsavage was born on October 5, 1943, in Lincoln, the daughter of Edward and Alta May House Wonsavage.

Surviving Doris are her sisters: Clara (Steve) Vaughan of Rochester and Kieryn Bernice Fontaine of Branson, Missouri. Five nephews and three nieces also survive.

She was preceded in death her parents.

Doris graduated from the Lincoln Community High School in 1961. She was employed at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for many years in the Environmental Services Department before she retired.

She is a member of the Mason City Assembly of God Church.

Lincoln, IL – Ruth E. Hurley, 85, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Lincoln Village Healthcare.

Graveside Services for Ruth will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln. Rev. Nicodemus Muithi will officiate.

Ruth Ellen Logan was born August 31, 1940, in Lincoln, the daughter of Leo and Loretta O’Neill Logan, Sr. She was united in marriage to Edwin “Ed” Hurley on March 28, 1959. He survives.
Ruth is survived by her husband; two children: Randy (Delores) Hurley and their children and Kendall (Susan) Hurley and their children; one sister, Jane Perry; sister-in-law, Roberta Logan; and special friend Marsha Tumilty Logan. Other survivors include great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Josephine “Jody” Smith Logan; two brothers, Leo Logan, Jr. and Richard “Dick” Logan; one sister, Loretta “Lottie” Yeates; one step-sister, Dorothy Starling; and one step-brother, Robert “Bob” Smith.

Ruthie was a caregiver by nature and cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a licensed practical nurse for many years and cherished her time with patients at the hospital and nursing homes where she served. After retiring, she continued this care by helping family and friends as a form of private hospice by giving free comfort and relief to patients and their family. Ruthie was a breast cancer survivor. She loved her family, and especially Ed, her devoted husband of 66 years. She loved to cook and was very good at it. She was an avid reader and also collector of angel and Christ-related figurines. Being with her was a joy and always fun and interesting. She will be missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Lincoln Village Healthcare and Gentiva Hospice for their help in Ruthie’s time of need.

Lincoln, IL -- Eugene Weldon, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Delong, IL, passed away peacefully at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Born on November 7, 1944, in Gideon, MO, Eugene was the son of Albert and Nora Moore Weldon. He married Catherine Westfall, on June 6, 1964, in Granite City, IL.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Catherine; four children: Catherine Jean (Randy) Winston of Williamsville, MO; Michael (Barbara) Weldon of Veedersburg, IN; Vickie (Jeff) Diedrich and Rebecca (Mark) Juilfs, both of Lincoln, IL. He is also survived by his brother Larry Vaughn (Susan) Weldon of Troy, IL; three sisters: Juanita Thurman of Galesburg, IL, Ida Mae (Julian) Cordova of Grand Junction, CO, and Brenda Carole (Jimmy) South of Lepanto, AR; along with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren—with another on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters.

Eugene was known for his strong work ethic. Over the years, he farmed in Cameron, IL, owned and operated Weldon Trucking, and after retiring, worked in the dietary department at OSF Hospital in Monmouth, IL.

Outside of work, Eugene enjoyed many hobbies. He loved boating, fishing, hunting with his son, riding motorcycles and horses, and cheering on his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. A lifelong dog lover, he had many loyal pets over the years. He especially cherished family gatherings—nothing made him happier than a good fish fry surrounded by his loved ones. His greatest joy was always his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at McGuire and Davies Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. A graveside service will follow at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth.

Memorials in Eugene’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army.

Lincoln -- Perry Edwin Groves Jr., 53, also known as “Elvis” to many friends and family, passed away Friday evening, October 17, 2025, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

He was born on September 28, 1972, in Lincoln, IL, the cherished son of Perry and Sophia Groves, Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carie McEntire Groves; his two beloved daughters, Alexis Groves and Isabella Groves; his parents, Sophia and Perry Groves, Sr.; sisters Sophia Thompson (Buddy) and Kayla Koester (Andrew); nieces Kaitlin Burton (Klayton), Halie McEntire, Siera McEntire, and McKenzie Koester; nephew Logan Koester; and great-nephews Nolan Couve, Kolton Burton, Briar Burton, and Hudson Burton. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David McEntire; Uncle Jack Groves; and grandparents Charlie and Ruby Groves, Paul and Lea McEntire, and Dean Roos.

Carie and Perry built a life filled with love, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime. He was a proud and loving father, and his girls were his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He supported and cheered them on in everything they did. He cherished his time spent with them doing the things that they loved. Perry enjoyed traveling with his family and was always ready to have a fun time.

Perry loved music and spent many years as an Elvis tribute artist and was inducted into the International Elvis Tribute Artist Hall of Fame in 2022. He loved traveling, performing, and entertaining as Elvis for his friends, family, and fans. Perry and the Elvis tribute artists he performed with became a second family, encouraging and supporting him in his love of competing and his love of Elvis. Perry also owned and operated King Karaoke and DJ Service and spent many nights spinning tunes and singing songs.

Baseball was one of Perry’s greatest passions, whether it was playing the game in his younger years, watching his favorite team, the Cardinals, calling plays as an umpire, or coaching for many years for Carroll, Zion, and New Holland schools' co-op team. Baseball wasn’t just a pastime - it was part of who he was.

Perry was a racing enthusiast; he spent many hours watching racing, whether it was at the track or on TV. He especially enjoyed the years he crewed on the Barrick Motorsports team. He collected diecast cars, Hot Wheels, and always enjoyed putting together model cars. He also loved car shows. Any chance he had to show off his beloved Mustang “Raquel” made him proud. Perry spent countless hours washing and waxing her to keep her beautiful. He and his friends had a car club and called themselves the Woodlawn Knights.

Services will be held at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd, from 5PM-8PM, and the funeral will be Thursday, October 23rd, at 10:30AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Owens officiating. The burial will take place at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln, following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, Abraham Lincoln Quarter Midget Association, or a charity of your choice.

Though his time on earth was far too short, his impact will be felt forever by those who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service for Glenda will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanual Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. James Christian officiating.

A fellowship hour will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.

Glenda Belle Johnson was born on November 8, 1939, in Lincoln, the daughter of Lloyd and Florence Amberg Johnson. She was united in marriage to Dean E. Downing on April 14, 1962, in Immanual Lutheran Church in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2024.

Surviving are her daughters: Sara (Greg) Horchem and Jill (Jerry) Uhrine; five grandchildren: Josh Horchem, Justin Horchem, Jason Horchem, Sam Uhrine and Sophie Uhrine; and one sister: Nancy (Bernard) LaValle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Ted Johnson.

Glenda graduated from the Lincoln Community High School in 1957. She retired from the Illinois Teacher Retirement System. She had also worked at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station as an administrative assistant.

She was a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church in Lincoln where she was very actively involved. Her hobbies included playing Bridge, piano, guitar and spending time with her family.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Lester Eugene "Gene" Cowgur was born on May 13, 1944, in Elkhart, Illinois, the son of Maxwell Eugene and Bertha Irene Baker Cowgur. He was raised by his stepmother Roberta Evelyn Koehler Cowgur from age 4 years old. He was united in marriage to Patsy Colleen Donnan on May 29, 1965. She passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

He is survived by his children: Tammy Harmony, Lora (Paul) Fanning, and Brad (Pandora) Cowgur, grandchildren: Daniel Harmony, Rachel Harmony, Elizabeth (Pat) Buchanan, Nate Fanning, Samantha (Levi) Clemens, Zachary (Allie) Fanning, Justin (Leighanna) Hyatt, and Kevin (Veronica) Cowgur; and fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Brian Cowgur, one sister: Becky Landis, one sister-in-law: Carolyn Koehler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Bruce Cowgur, one niece: Alaina Landis; and one grandson: Brian Harmony, Jr.

Gene attended Mt. Pulaski High School with the class of 1962. He then served in the United States Army as a Field Medic Corpsman from 1962 to 1965, serving one year in Korea.

He was employed at Bridgestone Firestone for 30 years, PPG, Filter Queen Vacuum, Morgan Transport, and Ron's Towing.

Gene and Patsy owned the Dairy Bar in Mt. Pulaski, along with Putter and Clutter Woodworking. His hobbies included woodworking, along with being outdoors fishing or hunting.

Burial will be the Laenna Cemetery in rural Chestnut at a later date.

Patsy Colleen Donnan was born on March 21, 1947, in Lincoln the daughter of Elmer Oliver and Leola Allegra Ballinger Donnan. She was united in marriage to Lester Eugene "Gene" Cowgur on May 29, 1965. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2022.

Burial will be at the Leanna Cemetery in rural Chestnut at a later date.

She is survived by her children: Tammy Harmony, Lora (Paul) Fanning, and Brad (Pandora) Cowgur, eight grandchildren: Daniel Harmony, Rachel Harmony, Elizabeth (Pat) Buchanan, Nate Fanning, Samatha (Levi) Clemens, Zachary (Allie) Fanning, Justin (Leighanna) Hyatt, and Kevin (Veronica) Cowgur; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law: Bonnie Donnan.

She and Gene owned the Dairy Bar in Mt. Pulaski, along with Putter and Clutter Woodworking. Her hobbies included flower gardening.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the visitation.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln.

Louise Coulter Landgraf was born on July 15, 1958, in Normal, Illinois, the daughter of William Bernard and Helen Coulter Landgraf.

She is survived by her friends Karen Deany, Marcia Warner, Patrica (Ron Nye) Caveny-Nye and her family at Lincoln House, along with her sisters: Penny Sides and Susan Perry.

She genuinely wanted to be friends with everyone. Louise lived at Lincoln House since 2000. She loved working at the Workshop, dancing, fishing with Ron and Pat, and going on train trips with Karen and Marcia. She also was involved with Special Olympics, doing the softball throw and 50-yard dash.

James Robert Hayes II was born on September 22, 1952, in Lincoln, the son of James Robert Hayes I and Helen Louise Renfrow Hayes.
He is survived by his children: April J. Hayes, Michael (Loringie Clark) Hayes and James Ryan Hayes; six grandchildren: Austin Hayes, Tadeym Bratcher, Chloe E. Hayes, Hailey Hayes, Summer Hayes, and Hunter B. Hayes; and two sisters: Debbie (James) Wheeler and Kim (Tim) Daugherty.

Bob graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1970. He had been employed at Lehn and Fink, Precision Products, and Clearwater Production. He was a member of the Lincoln Christian Church. His hobbies were shooting guns, woodworking, gardening, and watching NASCAR races.

Clinton -- James F. Defebaugh, 83, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, as he went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Jim was born on July 6, 1942. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 59 years Betty, sisters Leona and Avis, his children: James E. Defebaugh of Jasper, GA, Julie (Mark) Rogers of St. Louis, MO., Jason (Gina) Defebaugh of Lincoln, IL and Jenifer (Dan) Leevey of Forsyth, IL; grandchildren: Taelor (Nolan) Rynearson, Alex (Kayla) Rogers, Destiny (Travis) Barnes, Morgan (Patrick) Hoban, Rylee Defebaugh, Jaron Defebaugh, Brently Defebaugh, Emma Leevey, Samantha Rogers, Jillian Defebaugh; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his mother, Florence; father, Harold; and siblings Edith, Richard, Bob and Jerry.

Jim, an avid gardener, had a passion for growing vegetables and sharing his harvest with friends and family. He was a fan of many sports, with the Chicago Cubs and the Illinois Fighting Illini being his favorites. His many hobbies include fishing, woodworking, and playing games with his family and friends.

Jim never met a stranger and always looked for (and found) the best in everyone. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the Clinton Church of Christ on October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clinton Church of Christ.

Lincoln, IL — Edward P. Malerich, 84, of Lincoln, passed away July 17, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

*** Graveside Services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lincoln American Legion Post #263. ***

A true "Renaissance Man," Ed was an actor, author, playwright, champion fencer, carpenter, amateur historian, enthusiast of antique black powder weapons, and black belt in karate. He began his acting career at the Pasadena Playhouse and toured nationally with José Ferrer in a production of Cyrano. Edward wrote a play, "Legend of the Sword," which was produced in New York City at The American Theatre of Actors. He later lent his voice to documentaries on The Military Channel and Discovery Channel.

Edward was the author of three published novels including The Wooden Sword, The Miscast Gentleman, and The Pirate of Hitchfield. He was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and attended Lincoln College.

Edward was born on October 21, 1940, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Edward M. Malerich and Virginia House Malerich.

He is survived by his daughter, Brooke (Peter) Egbert; two grandchildren, Holly Egbert and Scott Egbert; two brothers, John F. Malerich and Thomas M. Malerich; and two sisters, Mary E. Malerich Ellinghaus and June Malerich Humphreys.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Logan County.
