In January we celebrated our wonderful Life Enrichment team for all of the activities and facilitation of individual pursuits for our residents that they do.

We are gearing up for our annual Soup Supper this Thursday and can't wait to warm up with friends and family over a delicious bowl of soup. Thank you to all of the kind souls that care for our resident's day in and day out! Come join us. 🥰

In the days leading up to Christmas we've celebrated with festive activities. Including a petting zoo curtesy of Little Horn Ranch , Hot Cocoa Bar, visiting the Lincoln Children's Zoo Lights, music, and staff Holiday Party as well with desserts provided by our founder Jack Vetter.

We wish everyone a Happy Holiday and New Year, we are so grateful for the wonderful resident's we serve daily and the staff that do so humbly. 🥰🎅☕️

Sumner Place was honored to receive the Silver Quality Award given by The National Quality Award Program held by The American Health Care Association(NHCA). Our Administrator Kaitlin Diaz and People Development Coordinator Sarah Wiebusch accepted the award on behalf of the Sumner Place family earlier this month.

"The three-level program evaluates long term care organizations capabilities against nationally recognized standards for excellence, making it one of the most comprehensive and cost-effective performance assessments available to providers. Each progressive award level — Bronze – Commitment to Quality, Silver - Achievement in Quality, and Gold – Excellence in Quality, requires a more detailed demonstration of superior performance." The award is currently displayed in our lobby and we will maintain the Silver level status for the next 3 years as we strive toward Gold status.

Team members that have made a difference can be nominated for the Dignity In Action Award. This prestigious award is given out quarterly from our founders Jack and Eldora Vetter along with all of the Vetter Family at a special awards ceremony.

Most recently team members Sam Kariuki and Daisy Rodriguez were recognized from Sumner Place and honored with the award! Please help us congratulate them for embodying "Dignity in Life" for our residents.

We are so honored a few of our resident's were recognized by the Nonprofit Dream Flights Team for their Military Service or spousal Military Service. Each resident got to ride in this restored World War 2 by plane; the same aircraft used to train aviators during World War 2. Resident's were given special memorabilia to honor and recognize their bravery. Each flight was a 15 minute magnificent flight in an open cock-pit, our resident's were thrilled to have experienced this! :)

We are so honored that previous resident Kay Puckett's family still honors her legacy by awarding an annual $500 scholarship to an outstanding Sumner Place employee. This year we were so proud that our very own Aubrey Hayes was presented with the scholarship by Kay's daughter Sue Outson.

Kay Puckett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2000. She was a resident here at Sumner Place from 2006 until her passing in October 2012 at only 76 years old. She lived first on the Loft then on Maple Lane – the nursing station on Maple Lane remains dedicated to Kay’s memory.
As a former teacher, educational causes were very important to Kay, which is what made the idea of a scholarship meaningful to her family.

Kay's daughter Sue warmly shared this message about continuing her mother's legacy and what the scholarship is all about "Mom – and everyone at Sumner Place – taught us patience, compassion and cooperation, and showed us how to live in the moment, listen to each other and make the most of any situation. This scholarship celebrates those lessons and provides financial assistance for team members who choose to further their education and their healthcare career. The hope is that the woman Kay was before and after her diagnosis is remembered and honored by this scholarship."

Aubrey has worked here at Sumner Place since 2019 when she joined out team as CNA. When she received her RN in August 2023, she moved into a part time charge nurse position while continuing to pursue her bachelor’s in nursing from UNMC and go on to specialize and receive her master’s in nursing. Aubrey lives our Mission, Vision, and Values everyday by coming in with a positive attitude, always shows a willingness to learn, and works hard to care for our residents while supporting her team! We are proud to have Aubrey as part of our team and honored to present her with the Kay Puckett Scholarship this year!

How nostalgic does it feel remembering Prom?? Look at our sweet resident's enjoying the glitz and glam of our Annual Senior Dance. A big thank you to all of our volunteer's Tabitha Health Dreamweaver Foundation Hillcrest Health & Living , The College of Hair Design, and Nebraska Wesleyan University costume library for making this event so special.
