Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Melissa Peters ✨
This week we’re excited to spotlight Melissa, an essential part of our Billing Department here at Capital Eye Care! 💻👓
Melissa grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she studied Mathematics, a perfect fit for her role today. She first entered the eye care field as a part-time college student and has now built an impressive 22-year career in eye care. Melissa has been with Capital Eye Care for 1 year, keeping our billing operations running smoothly behind the scenes.
Her favorite part of working at Capital Eye Care is the great atmosphere, and she can’t live without her twin, coffee, and her kids. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys yard work and gardening, loves sci-fi movies and books, and recently checked off a major travel bucket-list destination with a trip to Egypt. Her favorite color is tangerine, and she’s hoping to travel somewhere new again within the next year. Her favorite holiday is Easter, because it means spring has arrived. Looking ahead, Melissa sees herself possibly heading toward early retirement—with a laugh, of course.

Most dry eye isn’t about how much you blink — it’s about how well you blink. 👀
Incomplete blinks lead to poor oil release from the eyelids, which means an unstable tear film and dry, irritated eyes.
OptiLIFT™ gently warms and massages the eyelids to improve blink quality, helping restore a healthier tear film and more comfortable vision.
Better blinks. Better tears. Better comfort.

Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Andrea Engler ✨
This week we’re excited to spotlight Andrea Engler, one of our incredible Clinic Technicians here at Capital Eye Care! 👓💙
Andrea, also known as Andi, grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska and attended SCC–Lincoln and Kaplan University. She discovered her interest in eye care while learning about the eyes in school. She has now worked in the eye care field for 17 years and has been part of the Capital Eye Care team since we opened in April 2024.
As a CMA and clinic technician, Andrea plays a key role in patient care. Her favorite part of working at Capital Eye Care is the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, her great coworkers, and the opportunity to work directly with patients every day.
Outside of work, Andrea enjoys concerts, movies, and spending time with friends and family. She’s a big fan of Nebraska sports, loves ’90s country music, and is a self-proclaimed Nicholas Sparks fan, with The Notebook being her favorite. This year, she’s enjoyed time at Lake McConaughy, and her favorite color is green.
Looking ahead, Andrea hopes to continue growing in her career. A fun fact about her—she was born on Friday the 13th! Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, thanks to family time and great food, and she proudly says one of her favorite roles in life is being an aunt to her three nephews and one niece.

Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Anne Cashmere ✨
This week we’re excited to spotlight Anne Cashmere, one of our amazing Clinic Technicians here at Capital Eye Care! 👓💙
Anne, also known as Annie, grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from UNL in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. Her path into eye care is a meaningful one. Anne was introduced to optometry through an optometrist at her horse barn, who noticed a blind spot in her horse’s vision and explained how he could only see shadows. That moment completely changed how Anne handled and cared for her horse, Bravo, and sparked a deep passion for optometry that led to her first job in the field.
Anne has worked in eye care for 5 years and has been with Capital Eye Care for about 1.5 years, starting just a few months after we opened. Her favorite part of working here is seeing how improved vision can truly change patients’ lives, learning about new eye conditions and disease prevention, and working alongside a team known for their positivity and strong work ethic. She also helps run our social media, and creating the fun REELs has been one of her favorite creative outlets.
Outside of work, Anne spends much of her time with her horse Bravo, who is turning 23 this year. While they previously competed in dressage and jumping, she now enjoys calm rides and quality time as he approaches a well-earned retirement. She also loves traveling, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the world. Anne is also a pet mom to her kitten Ben.
This past year, Anne traveled to Africa on an optometry mission trip, working alongside doctors to provide eye care throughout western Kenya, and she’s heading back again in just a couple of weeks. She’s also traveled to Arizona, Tennessee, Cancun, the Ozarks, Colorado, and Florida.
Looking ahead, Anne hopes to continue traveling, further excel in optometry, and pursue continued education and research.

Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Ivette Cruz ✨
This week we’re excited to introduce Ivette Cruz, one of our wonderful Clinic Technicians here at Capital Eye Care! 👓💗
Ivette grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska and attended Southeast Community College. Her path into eye care started with a little encouragement—her former eye doctor told her she would be great in the field, and they were right. Ivette has now worked in eye care for just over two years and has been part of the Capital Eye Care team for three months.
As a clinic technician, Ivette loves the friendly, supportive environment at Capital Eye Care and appreciates how genuinely caring the doctors are toward the staff. She can’t live without tacos, her cats, and music, and her favorite genre is Latin music, with “Again” by Feid & Majid Jordan at the top of her playlist.
Outside of work, Ivette enjoys spending time with friends and family and has a creative side—she loves making flower arrangements. She’s a fan of comedies, with the Barbie Movie being her favorite. Ivette is a proud cat mom to Cookie (a tortie/calico) and Canelo (an orange tabby), and this year she traveled to El Salvador. Her favorite colors are pink and brown.
Looking ahead, Ivette hopes to buy a new car within the next year. A fun fact—Spanish is her first language, and she is CPO certified. In 10 years, she sees herself married and owning a home. She also shares that her boyfriend, Riky, has been by her side for the past three years.

Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Dr. Scott Reins ✨

This week we’re excited to spotlight Dr. Scott Reins, one of the founding optometrists of Capital Eye Care and a familiar face to so many of our patients! 👓
Dr. Reins grew up in Albion, Crawford, and Nebraska City, earned his undergraduate degree from Nebraska Wesleyan, and completed optometry school at Pennsylvania College of Optometry. With a love for both science and people, optometry was a natural fit. He’s been practicing for 31 years, all while helping shape Capital Eye Care from the very beginning.
His favorite part of working here is the vibe: a great staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and the ability to provide excellent care while making patients feel truly comfortable. He can’t live without his morning energy drinks, friends and family, and televised sports.
Outside the office, Dr. Reins enjoys golf, “old man” basketball, and traveling. He’s a fan of rock music, with Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones at the top of his list. His favorite genres are action and non-fiction, with books like No Easy Day, Undaunted Courage, and The Boys in the Boat standing out. Recent travels include Arizona and Las Vegas, with a trip to the Florida Keys coming up.
He recently said goodbye to his yellow lab, Rutter, after 13½ years, and still has a cat named Simone (though she mostly goes by “Cat”). His favorite color? Capital Eye Care burgundy of course! Looking ahead, Dr. Reins hopes for good health, continued growth of the practice, and some more time to relax. A fun fact: beneath it all, he admits he’s a big softie.

Staff Spotlight Saturdays ✨ Meet Dr. Todd Pfeil ✨

This week, we’re highlighting Dr. Todd Pfeil, one of our optometrists here at Capital Eye Care! 👓
Dr. Pfeil grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska, attended UNL, and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry. He chose eye care for one simple but powerful reason—helping enhance quality of life through better vision.
Dr. Pfeil has been practicing optometry since 2005 and has worked in the eye care field since 1996, when he started as a clinical technician. He’s been with Capital Eye Care for 1.5 years, and his favorite part of the job is the people he gets to work with every day, so much so that it barely feels like work.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Pfeil enjoys being outdoors, listening to country music, and reading business and self-improvement books. He can’t live without his family, his dog Diesel (a black lab 🐾), and coffee. He also credits his wife, Kristen, as the best decision he ever made at 21. Recent travels include Colorado and the Black Hills.
Looking ahead, Dr. Pfeil is working toward a fellowship in the Scleral Lens Society. A fun fact: he was Dr. Reins’ chairside assistant during undergrad.

We take our holiday spirit very seriously around here! Today for Christmas Eve we wore our festive red Christmas sweaters, but a few people didn’t quite get the memo….cough cough, Taylor 😉 When that happens, some of us turn into “Mean Girls,” and yes… on Wednesdays we do wear red. ❤️

All jokes aside, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas from all of us here at Capital Eye Care! 🎅🎄🎁
