LANCASTER COUNTY MEASLES UPDATE
Recently there was a reported measles case in Lancaster County. We are following the guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and our local and state health departments, which we will share with you.
What you should know for your family and community:
• Measles is highly contagious and the MMR vaccine is the best protection.
• The first MMR vaccine is typically given at 12 to 15 months of age and provides 93% Immunity.
• The second and final vaccine is typically given between 4 and 6 years of age and provides 97% immunity.
• In the event of a measles outbreak the MMR vaccine can be given as early as 6 months, at the guidance of the community health department.
• The MMR vaccine has been scientifically proven not to cause autism.
If your child is experiencing fevers along with a rash, we may ask additional questions so we can best schedule your child’s visit for the safety of your family and our community.
