Happy Halloween from LLCHD WIC! No tricks this year, just a few healthy tips to consider as you and your family celebrate!

🧡 Eat a balanced meal before you go trick-or-treating. Having a tummy full of nutritious foods may reduce the desire to over-snack on candy!
💜 Try to keep candy to 1-2 pieces per day. This is a great opportunity to teach your children about moderation and the importance of healthy food choices!
💚Bring a smaller bag trick-or-treating. By using a smaller container, this ends up being a smaller stash of candy to work through. They will also be able to visit more houses if they only take one piece from each house to keep the fun going all night long!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

Did you know? 🤔 Your body needs calcium to build and maintain strong bones, keep your teeth healthy, and support your muscles and nerves. 💪

The WIC food package includes milk, yogurt, and cheese to support your calcium intake—you can also opt for dairy-free alternatives like non-dairy milk if you or your child has dietary restrictions!

It’s corn! 🌽 A big lump with k***s, it has the juice! 🍿I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing! 🎶

Not only is corn tasty, it also helps support your gut and digestive health since corn contains both soluble and insoluble fiber! 🙌

Soluble fiber breaks down and forms a gel in your intestines and can help regulate blood sugar levels and cholesterol. Insoluble fiber does not break down which means the corn kernel outer shells pass through your digestive system and can act as a prebiotic which can support a healthy gut microbiome!

What are your favorite ways to eat corn in the fall?

Your local WIC staff wearing pink to honor all who have been impacted by breast cancer. 🩷

Did you know that breastfeeding can reduce the risk of breast cancer? "This association is so strong that Lancet reported in 2016 that the current rates of breastfeeding directly prevent nearly 20,000 deaths from breast cancer every year, and an additional 20,000 lives would be saved annually by scaling up breastfeeding practices worldwide."
