Conflict doesn’t have to be destructive. Learn how to disagree in a manner that strengthens your bond and deepens your understanding of each other. Practice offering curiosity to your partner... “I’d like to understand more about your perspective/opinion/idea etc.”

Being able to identify the Four Horsemen in your conflict discussions is a necessary first step to eliminating them and replacing them with healthy, productive communication patterns.

When was the last time you felt truly heard and understood by your partner? Have you ever asked yourself if you're sending the correct message for them to translate?

Communicating in a way that allows you to be heard and understood is complicated. I often see couples blaming each other for not understanding when in reality... The message was flawed from the beginning. This chart from The Gottman Institute can be a valuable tool in expressing emotion and asking your partner for what you need without blame, shame, guilt or excuses.

If you would like to develop additional tools for communication and conflict resolution, call today for an appointment.

Being a caregiver may be one of the most rewarding roles you'll assume during your lifetime. However, it can also be one of the most difficult. Unfortunately, the rest of your responsibilities and obligations keep coming, leaving little to no time to take care of yourself. It is vital to manage your own emotional and physical health in order to care for a loved one and prevent burnout.

How many times do you hear yourself saying, "I just don't have time for..."? What if you made yourself a PRIORITY? Is 3 minutes of your time worth decreased stress and anxiety? Is 3 minutes a day worth loosening the knots in your neck, back and stomach? Is 3 minutes a day worth being more present with your family, friends and loved ones? Left unchecked, stress and anxiety will get your attention through physical symptoms, not just mental & emotional distress, and can often lead to burnout. If you feel like you are struggling with stress, burnout, anxiety, or depression please call today to schedule your first appointment.

Memories and experiences are stored in our bodies and tied to emotion. Trauma impacts our ability to successfully process experiences and often contributes to our memory networks becoming tangled up. This is where "triggers" come in. Sometimes that word gets a bad rap. But triggers are essentially anything that lights up that memory (or part of a memory) and contributes to it attaching the associated responses and/or emotions to an experience in the here and now. This process is not necessarily occurring on a conscious level. The result... Heightened anxiety, stress, fear, and a general increase in symptoms related to trauma. Unfortunately, it can be next to impossible to "think" your way out of a traumatic response. No matter how logical you are or how long ago the trauma occurred.

Call today to see if counseling may be helpful. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) available.
