No matter how long it’s been - several weeks, months, years, a season or two, last week or yesterday - there’s always, always a recliner. Pop on in and chill out, the world can wait.

Acupuncture can help. Here’s another cool study -

According to a recent randomized controlled trial at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, research proves acupuncture can significantly reduce the numbness, tingling and pain often caused by chemotherapy. Cancer patients receiving acupuncture experienced greater improvement in nerve function and peripheral nerve symptoms along with increased quality of life compared to those receiving sham treatment (needling at non acupuncture locations). Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) affects sensory and motor nerves of the hands and feet with symptoms ranging from mild paresthesia (pins and needles/ burning/tingling sensations) to severe weakness, pain and functional impairment. This was a small, short study- 70 post chemotherapy patients, treated for two weeks, six sessions of 30 minutes each. In addition, both groups received mecobalamin (an active form of B12). Estimates of patients developing CIPN after exposure to chemotherapeutic agents range from 30-60%

If someone you know is suffering from CIPN, send them on over - LAP would love to help.

It’s true - regularly scheduled acupuncture treatments can actually retrain the nervous system to manage stress more effectively. Acupuncture improves both physical and emotional resilience by shifting us from a “fight or flight” state to a “rest and digest” mode. Why run from the bear when you can chill out in a chair? Pop on in and lower your cortisol, reduce your anxiety, lift feelings of depression and support your immunity - you’ll be so glad you did.

Some patients say the clinic is Lincoln’s “best kept secret”. What if it wasn’t?

What if more people knew no matter what their health concerns were, they had a comfy recliner to stretch out on? Blankets, pillows, some soft music (headphones are fine) in a room full of beautiful plants, some art and a few tasteful knick knacks. What if there were others, in their own recliner nests, asleep and resting, everyone’s collective presence helping each individual feel less isolated, less alone, more regulated. What if everyone knew acupuncture really does work? Thanks for spreading the word and thank you all for your support, it doesn’t go unnoticed.

A slice of conditions and concerns the clinic saw this past week (deep breath):

Signs and symptoms related to mold exposure, anxiety, stress and depression, grief, slow wound healing, low bone density, peripheral neuropathy, IVF and IUI preparation, low back pain, gastrointestinal upset, recovery from a car accident, perimenopause, recovery from surgery/preparation for surgery, insomnia, Parkinson’s, exam taking clarity, divorce, death of a family member, trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, epilepsy, cancer treatment support, detox, arthritis, cataracts, fibromyalgia, pregnancy support, frozen shoulder, knee pain, sinus infection, POTS, MS, CFS, TMJ, CTS, extreme distress, fatigue, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and migraine along with 3 of my personal favourites - “the usual”, “my wife told me to come” and “curiosity”.

Pop on in, acupuncture may be able to help.

For the nerds, the curious, the studious and everyone else, check this out -

A recent large-scale systematic review of acupuncture and its effects conducted at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine reveals some amazing stuff. It’s true - acupuncture continues to demonstrate consistent clinical benefit for reducing depression across diverse patient groups. The review compiles 37 randomized controlled trials along with extensive studies concluding (drumroll) acupuncture produces measurable improvements in depression severity, sleep quality, cognitive function and neurobiological markers relevant to mood regulation. Utilizing functional MRI, research proves acupuncture modulates multiple large-scale brain networks like the cognitive control network, the limbic system, the visual network and the sensorimotor network. Come on in folks, these tiny needles really can help!

Sometimes I, and the clinic by extension, get some amazing gifts, all sorts of gifts - be they food/beverages of any type imaginable, gift certificates, art, music, balloons, flowers, plants and plant starts and/or cards (to name but a few). Thank you everyone, and check this out! We all love it here.

And, did you know playing with Lego has major benefits for both children and adults? Like improving concentration, building self confidence, learning how to set and accomplish goals, becoming comfortable with failure and providing a sense of calm and relaxation. I think that’s way cool, don’t you?

One of the most difficult jobs around, and there are many, is home healthcare, specifically end of life/Hospice work. Is it rewarding, absolutely. Is it demanding, you betcha. Home healthcare workers live with multiple challenges ranging from musculoskeletal disorders and over exertion to chronic stress and exhaustion. HCWs also suffer from repeated exposure to hazardous work conditions as part of their very physically demanding work along with high levels of strain including both time and workload pressure. Far too many also suffer from low pay, little to no sick leave, disrespect and, sadly, for some, other mental and physical challenges.

I cannot imagine what my family would do without someone like Olivia and countless others who have helped us over the years. Their dedication, empathy and commitment is awe inspiring. This weekend, we swapped all sorts of stories - about life and its end, laughter, family, love, medicine and natural healing. I learned so many hacks and tricks just by observing and helping. I even got to give her something - acupuncture! These tiny needles travel so well :)

People love to bring visiting family members into the clinic. It’s probably a combo of, “Look what I’m doing.” and “Come with me and try this thing out.” along with “We’ve got one of those in our town too!” People also just love to bring family members who live right here in town to the clinic. Either way, it’s a win win win. Pop on in with a friend, family member, co-worker or fly solo, you’ll be stoked you did.
