Salt Creek had two especially wonderful guests this week! The Lancaster County Chorus delighted us with their amazing music. Also, Ryan Sothan, from the Nebraska Attorney General's Office gave us an insightful presentation on scams that can threaten our personal information.

Both features were deeply appreciated!

Thank you to Wendy, Jan and Donna from the Lancaster County Chorus and to Mr. Sothan from the Attorney General's Office for making our week a little extra delightful!

Salt Creek hosted a wonderful Halloween Party this week! There were decorated doors, costumed friends, spirited treats and a little trick at the ice cream station. (Vanilla and Chocolate got switched by the Culinary Team -- because who doesn't like a "trick" that always ends in ice cream!)

Happy Halloween everyone!

The results are in from the Salt Creek Pumpkin Decorating Contest. We will share the official winners with you as we begin to enjoy the day with candy and all things that are spooky and sweet!

Winning the most votes...is the Eyeball Pumpkin! Everyone noted the amazing detail and accuracy, complimenting the painter extensively.

Other notable winners...were the Candy Apple, the enormous Ice Cream Cone, the Chill Pill (created with love by our Medication Aides), and a pumpkin honoring Herbie Husker.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Salt Creek Halloween fun takes more than one day to celebrate together. Today, team members showed their spirit with some great costumes!

Little Mermaid Ariel is enjoying a splash in the fancy dog wash area. An adorable bear is hanging out by the fire pit on the outside patio. Barbie is exercising in the Fitness Room...and her joy sparkles as loudly as her legwarmers!

Where's Waldo? Oh wait! There she is...right by the bat pillars that are all dressed up for the trick or treaters coming later. There's a flapper by the beautiful piano...and a fire and safety officer. A cowboy and a witch, too.

Looks like some fabulous fun is just around the corner!

The Salt Creek schedule is full of several "tricks" and "treats" all through this week. We thought we would show you a little peek at just two small ones that happened today.

Today's morning "trick" was to ask people to guess how many pearls were on the decorated pumpkin. (We will share the answer with you tomorrow.)

This afternoon's "treat" was a delicious sampling of various appetizers during our Social Hour. (Tip - the fruity cheesecakes and bacon-topped deviled eggs seemed to be the big favorites. The warm and yummy poppers were also extremely popular!)

Calling all cat lovers! Today is National Cat Day and we want to see your furry friends. Drop a photo in the comments of your cat/cats.

To help honor the day, we have a purple cat guarding some witch's hats in our Bistro. He's all ready for the cat-themed trivia games we will be featuring after dinner tonight!

Let's talk about cookies. Rebel cookies, specifically.

Several times each week, members of our Salt Creek Lifestyle Team bakes fresh, delicious cookies.

Oatmeal raisin, double chocolate, savory peanut butter, macadamia white chocolate...the flavor list goes on and on...but they are all delicious. Truly, we can't overstate the popularity of the warm cookies. The smell captivates you and makes your mouth just water...and you find yourself unable to easily resist these tiny little treats that melt in your mouth.

Our Residents especially love to enjoy them right after lunch, when they are warm little delights of ooey gooey perfection.

On one particular day last week, though, we had several little cookies that came out very toasted. It was a mystery!

All the other cookies in the same batch were the usual, mouth-watering bites of sugar-inspired goodness. But this small group of treats were much drier for some reason.

The next batches all came out perfect. And no more extra crunchy treats have appeared since then.

So we chuckled together and decided these were "rebel" cookies.

We made humorous comments to one another and said "oopsies" several times. In short, these little rebel cookies inspired a little extra laughter and joy.

We don't often say that about burnt cookies, you know? That they are "funny" and bring us "joy." But these did.

We've concluded that we may never see another batch of extra toasted, rebel cookies. As a result, we thought we'd share this story with you.

We also took a picture and have decided to include photos of the extra crunchy ones right next to the many batches of perfectly baked cookies we often enjoy each week. Because it is kind of fun when desserts show us they have a mind of their own. In fact, we kind of respect the idea that they took a different career path than their peers.

What ultimately became of the rebel cookies, you ask? Several Residents gently crumbled the little toasted brown circles and sprinkled them on top of their soft-serve ice cream...and said they were the best cookies yet!

Amazing author Jeff Chartier dazzled our Salt Creek Residents and a local book club with a truly fantastic talk this afternoon!

Jeff's book, "Lie Cheat Steal" offers features that are especially appealing to middle school readers with his rhythmic storytelling. And his upcoming new book, "Vent Number 5," is also sure to fast favorite among his readers of all ages.

We are so grateful for authors who share their stories -- and backstories -- with us. Thank you, Jeff, for making our Tuesday truly captivating!

Salt Creek loves to feature a little bit of extra fun each and every day for both our Residents and our Team Members!

On game days...Karol spoils us with buttery, hot, fresh popcorn just before the games start. On boss's day, an Ambassador might surprise their supervisor with beautiful flowers to let them know they are appreciated. Other days, there is energetic music featured and everyone loves to share in the fellowship with singing along (and maybe even some dancing)! Sometimes, there's balloons. Or cookies. Because fun comes in all different flavors and we love each one!
