Our program uniquely offers residents the opportunity to experience what practicing family medicine is like in a rural setting. Our second- and third-year residents care for hospitalized patients, provide emergency room care, and so much more for four weeks. Our residents gain valuable insight from local providers, setting them up for success when they start their own practice.

Over the next few months, some of our residents will offer thoughts about what they are doing during their rural rotations. We can't wait to learn more from them!

One thing our residency program is known for is how family friendly we are. We encourage our residents with families to maintain a work/life balance through their residency in Lincoln.

Ten residents are welcoming new babies this year. That may be a record for us, one that we are proud to hold!

Help us celebrate our December birthdays!

Today is Dr. Wade Fornander's big day! He is always busy, sharing his knowledge with residents and overseeing our Family Medicine Center as the Medical Director. We hope he takes time to do some of the things he enjoys most. Happy Birthday, Dr. Fornander!

Julie, our Program Coordinator, will enjoy her birthday on December 15! She's the go-to for questions about scheduling, noon conferences, Match, and everything else that involves the residents. Perhaps a day of relaxation and pampering is on her wish list. Enjoy your day, Julie!

On December 23, Tricia, our Administrative Assistant, will be celebrating her birthday! While her focus is supporting Administration's needs, Tricia stays connected to what's happening in the clinic every day, too. With it being so close to Christmas, here's hoping she gets a little something extra to make her feel very special. Cheers, Tricia!

Today, and every day, we say "thank you" to all veterans and those who continue to serve our country.

Often, post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, can be common among combat veterans. Some symptoms of PTSD include:

• Feeling "on alert" or easily startled
• Having trouble sleeping
• Struggling to manage daily activities
• Experiencing disturbing thoughts or feelings

If you or someone you know is experiencing PTSD symptoms, our therapists are ready to provide the help and support needed.

Join us in welcoming Nadia Abraham, MD, MBA, ABP, to our Residency Faculty!

Medicine runs in Dr. Abraham’s family, and her relatives’ compassion inspired her to care for kids and families. She loves helping little ones who can’t always explain what’s wrong and believes in finding what works best for each family—not just one “right” way. After five years with Lincoln Pediatric Hospitalists, Dr. Abraham returned to what she loves most—teaching future family doctors. She wants them to feel confident in their skills when it comes to taking care of children, which can be very different than caring for adults.

Get to know Dr. Abraham:

🏡 Grew up in McCook and Grand Island, NE
🎓 Graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she earned both her bachelor's and medical degree
🪴 Enjoys gardening, knitting, playing tennis, and spending time with her busy family

We love seeing our residents involved in the community. Not only did they participate in their annual fall resident retreat on Friday, but some of them took time out of their day to visit the Pediatric Unit at Bryan Health East, delivering Halloween treats and smiles to kiddos who had to spend Halloween in the hospital.

Thank you, Drs. Owen, Sullivan, Schroder, Stark, and Kroeger for making the day extra special for those kids!
