Heads up on prostate cancer news you may be seeing soon. A "new" study suggests prostate cancer screening with PSA might be helpful.

Well, this isn't really "new". There is a LOT of data out about PSA screening. But in medicine, screening tests have to meet multiple targets to be considered useful for population health.

So what can you do? Talk to your provider about prostate cancer screening. If you are having more symptoms of slower stream, not emptying, pain, etc; then talk to your provider. You do NOT have to have a family history of cancer to get cancer.

An interesting, peer reviewed, published study this week shows vaccination against Covid may improve survival in people getting immunotherapy for their cancer. The vax decreases hospitalizations, saves lives from covid, and may improve survival in select cancers.
Don’t forget to get your flu and covid vax

A cancer diagnosis is easily one of the toughest things to hear about from a medical professional. However, what do you do if you’re an adult with children who need to know about your diagnosis?

ANY BLOOD RELATIVE: An abnormal gene can increase cancer risk in men or women. For example, if your family/personal history is breast cancer from a genetic risk, but you only have sons, this can still be passed down to the sons and increase their risk of a different type of cancer. Please consider asking your doctor if you qualify for genetic counseling and evaluation.

There’s a great paper that came out recently showing that a structured exercise program for three years after surgery for colon cancer decreased risk of recurrence. It did not stop recurrence, but it does help and likely improves overall survival slightly. Keep in mind, this was a structured exercise program for three years. Activity at your work or around the house does not count as exercise. But we can all live a longer better life by routinely getting in 150 minutes per week of good exercise

I get a lot of questions about GLP1 meds and cancer. It is well known that obesity and lack of regular exercise cause many types of cancers.

Current data suggests that GLP meds are safe and likely helpful for many (not all) people with cancer.
