Roper and Sons Funeral Home

Roper and Sons Funeral Home Roper & Sons Funeral Home is now in our 120th year of serving Lincoln, Nebraska families with honor, integrity, and dignity.

Four generations strong and founded in December of 1901, Roper & Sons Funeral Home has been serving Lincoln families with honor, integrity, and dignity for 120 years. Roper & Sons Funeral Home was founded in December 1901, when Charles H. Roper began offering funeral services with Charles Beecher. The first facility opened at 124 South 13th Street, and began the longstanding tradition of offering funeral services with the honor, integrity, and dignity that Lincoln deserves. The current building at 4300 O Street was opened in 1959 and continues as our primary facility today. Roper & Sons Funeral Home continues to uphold Charles H. Roper’s commitment to serving Lincoln residents and the surrounding communities as well as keeping the business in the hands of family. The business is now managed by Tom Roper and Dean Schneider, along with Bill Roper and Charles "Pooch" Roper.

Chandler (Chan) A. Tyrrell, 100, of Lincoln passed away December 25, 2025. Born at home, April 18, 1925, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Delzon LeRoy and Iva Marie (Durham) Tyrrell.

In Chan’s life, the most important thing to him were his friends and family. He spent his life cherishing those relationships. The family saw his patience, love and caring through times of health and life challenges. His many friendships were built through his dedication to community and career.
Chan's church and faith were extremely important to him. He lived out his faith by Chairing the Westminster Foundation and serving on the Session for Westminster where he served on the Finance Committee and spent years as Head Usher.

In the community, Chan served as the Board Chair for the Madonna Foundation. He served on the Boards of Hillcrest Country Club, the Country Club of Lincoln, and was the President of the University Club. He was a long-time member of the Lincoln Executive Club and served as President twice. A second-generation Rotarian, Chan was a member of Lincoln Rotary Club #14 where he served as program chair. After moving to the Landing, he became a founding member of the Landing Scholarship Committee and served as its Chair. In the 1970's he served on the Mayor's Human Relations Committee.
Following his grandfather and father into the floral business in 1945, Chan ran and owned Tyrrell's Flowers for over 50 years. In 1988 he was inducted into the Nebraska Floral Society Hall of Fame. During his time in the floral industry, he served as the District Chairman and District Representative for Florist Transworld Delivery (FTD) and served on the national Board of the Society of American Florists.
Chan's generosity went beyond just his friends and family as many organizations also benefited from his generosity. For many years he donated floral arrangements to Grace Lutheran Church, Tabitha Health Care, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In addition, he was proud of the stained-glass window that his wife, Nancy, and he donated to the Chapel at Madonna.

Chan is survived by his son Chandler A. (Suzanne) Tyrrell II; daughters Julie (Frank) Jacobsen, Kathy Hasselbalch, and Mary Orth; grandchildren Chandler (Lisa) Tyrrell III, Christian (Kimm) Tyrrell, Theodore (Miki) Tyrrell, Scott (Stacy) Jacobsen, Brad (Jessica) Jacobsen, Amy (Aaron) Ost, Laura Orth, and Jeffrey Orth; 8 great grandchildren, and his special friend Marcia Guffey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Patricia Tyrrell and Nancy Hasselbalch Tyrrell.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM, Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive.
