Some people ask "What to say during Staylistening?" (in fact, you can search an article by the same title on our website) and the answer is "very little" for the most part.

Staylistening is the Hand In Hand Parenting Connection Tool where you meet the outpouring of emotion by coming closing and Listening with warmth, attention and empathy. Words can often get in the way of this process. It's very important to come from a place of allowing the emotions, just conveying your warmth and calm and not trying to fix or problem-solve. The wrong words can get in the way and generally, words are not needed.

However, the occasional short, sharp, warm phrase such as these might be useful. You know your child best and can work out whether it's worth giving one of these a go.
