Last week, Rachel Scott, a Business Development Manager here at NCBB, hosted our very first blood drive with Thrasher Foundation Repair. The drive collected 20 units, enough to save the lives of up to 60 local patients!

Rachel not only coordinated and helped run the drive, but also rolled up her sleeve to donate!

When asked what motivated her to donate, Rachel shared, “I believe in the power of blood donation and the impact it has on our community. I also wanted to support our partner’s first drive with NCBB. I’ve set a goal for 2026 to become an All-Seasons donor by donating once each season—winter, spring, summer, and fall. I think it’s important to lead by example when encouraging others to donate."

Are you ready to become an All Seasons donor too? Join Rachel in donating blood four times a year: https://bit.ly/3NzReKx

Nick had always grown up knowing that blood donation was important. But what really cemented his commitment was his time serving in Afghanistan, where he saw firsthand just how critical blood can be.

“Once I found out I had O negative [blood], I thought it was important. You never know who you’re helping,” he says. “And your body makes more, so don’t be stingy.”

Stories like Nick's are a powerful reminder that blood donation isn’t just a good deed, it’s a lifeline. Thank you for two decades of dedication and for inspiring others to roll up their sleeves and save lives. ❤️

Nebraska Community Blood Bank was honored to speak at the Nebraska Governor’s proclamation ceremony recognizing National Blood Donor Month.

The event highlighted the critical role blood donors play in supporting patients and hospitals across our state, especially during the winter months when donations tend to dip.

We’re especially grateful to Governor Jim Pillen for sharing his personal commitment to blood donation and announcing his plan to donate with us four times this year. He also encouraged Nebraskans to join him in making blood donation a regular habit, underscoring the powerful impact a single donation can have on saving lives.

Thank you, Governor Pillen, for your leadership and advocacy. We’re proud to work alongside partners across Nebraska to strengthen our local blood supply and ensure patients have the lifesaving care they need, when they need it.

A sincere thank you to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, University of Nebraska-Lincoln President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., and Blood Recipients Haylee and Kayla Werth for attending yesterday's press conference in recognition of National Blood Donor Month and the ongoing need for blood donations across the region.

"We’re incredibly grateful to our community leaders for standing with us today and encouraging folks to make blood donation part of their new year, because one donation can make all the difference for a patient in need," said Cheryl Warholoski, Executive Director of Blood Operations

January is historically one of the most challenging months for the blood supply, as holiday travel, winter weather, and seasonal illness often disrupt donations while patient needs remain constant. National Blood Donor Month serves as a reminder of the lifesaving impact of routine blood donation.

Three generations of women from the Rios family answered the urgent call to donate blood, continuing a powerful family tradition of saving lives.

Pictured left to right are Alma Rios, her granddaughter Ariana Rivera, and her daughter Gina Vega. Alma started this lifesaving legacy back in 1988. Gina followed in her footsteps, becoming a regular donor in 1997, and Ariana proudly made her first donation in 2022.

Here’s to every family creating a tradition of giving back and helping patients in need. ❤️🩸

For more than 20 years, the Munnich family has gathered around the holidays to donate blood and give a gift that truly matters. What started as a family tradition has become a powerful example of giving back during a time when donations are historically low.

This year, they made it even more special by welcoming their foreign exchange student from Norway to join them, sharing this lifesaving tradition across borders and cultures. Thank you to the Munnich family for showing that the spirit of the holidays is about generosity, community, and saving lives!

Talk about a beautiful way to end the year. Please help us congratulate Doug on reaching 200 lifetime donations!

Doug first donated back in high school, but after moving to Seward, his commitment grew. Doug is a familiar face at our Cattle Bank & Trust Blood Drive in Seward, which he supports every eight weeks without fail. His dedication over the years has helped save countless lives and sets an inspiring example for our community!
