Tomorrow is Rare Disease Day, a time to shine a light on the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare condition. At Sysmex, we know that for many of these individuals, the path to a diagnosis is often long and complex.

Today, we are highlighting Pyruvate Kinase (PK) Deficiency—a rare, lifelong genetic enzyme disorder that causes red blood cells to break down faster than they can be replaced.

Because symptoms like fatigue, jaundice and anemia can vary significantly from person to person, PK deficiency is often underdiagnosed or mistaken for other conditions. Understanding the science behind the "rare" is the first step toward better patient outcomes.
