Sprains and strains are two of the most common injuries to soft tissues. Although they share nearly identical symptoms, such as pain, loss of range of motion, and swelling, they are different, and distinguishing a sprain from a strain can be tricky.

The main difference between the two injuries is that a sprain involves an injury to a ligament, while a strain is an injury to the muscle or tendons. Sitting down for long periods has become unavoidable in today’s modern lifestyle. From commuting to and from work, sitting at a desk all day, watching TV, or browsing social media, the longer one sits, the more strenuous it becomes for the body. And unfortunately, inactivity is a leading cause of sciatica because sitting in one position for a long duration can create inflammation that irritates the sciatic nerve, commonly triggered by a bulging herniated disc in the spine or a bone spur. This causes a sharp, deep, burning pain or tingling sensation that typically runs down one side of your buttock and leg.
