๐Ÿ’™ March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’™
The American Cancer Society now recommends beginning colorectal cancer screening at age 45. Early screening is one of the most effective ways to detect colorectal cancer when itโ€™s easier to treat โ€” and even prevent.

If you have a family history of colorectal cancer or other risk factors, talk with your primary care provider about the right screening plan for you.

Your health is worth it. ๐Ÿ’™

This monthโ€™s pay it forward award goes to Kristin Johnson! Robin Hanson nominated Kristin and said:

โ€œIโ€™m so excited to nominate Kristin for the G.O.A.T. Award because she truly represents the very best of what a healthcare professional โ€” and teammate โ€” should be. Sheโ€™s the person you can always count on. If something needs to be done, sheโ€™s already stepping in without being asked. What makes her especially deserving to me is that weโ€™re a team. Sheโ€™s my go-to, my right hand, and the one I know I can rely on no matter what the shift brings. We back each other up, balance each other out, and get through even the toughest days side by side โ€” and Iโ€™m better because of her. She goes above and beyond in her role as an LPN, bringing incredible knowledge, skill, and heart to everything she does. Most importantly, she treats every patient with true kindness and compassion. Sheโ€™s not just great โ€” sheโ€™s truly the greatest of all time.โ€

Thank you Kristin for being the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time)!

Statistics say colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer found in both men and women. But fortunately, colorectal cancer found early is often highly curable.

In recognition of national Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March, The Tammy Walker Cancer Center at Salina Regional Health Center is leading an initiative to provide 800 free colorectal cancer screening kits to anyone ages 45 to 75. The screening is recommended for those who have not had a recent colonoscopy. Kits can be picked up at all Salina, Abilene, Concordia, Minneapolis and Lindsborg pharmacies while supplies last.

โ€œThe screening uses an advanced f***l blood test that requires only one sample and has no food or drug restrictions,โ€ said Daniel Craig, cancer outreach coordinator at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. โ€œOnce completed, the samples can then be mailed to the Cancer Center for lab analysis using a pre-paid postage envelope provided. Results of the test will be returned to both the patient and their primary care physician.โ€

Participants in the screening should return their samples for analysis by May 30.

Health officials recommend all men and women have a colonoscopy at age 45 to screen for colorectal cancer. Between colonoscopies patients can screen with a f***l blood test. Other tests may also be recommended by your physician. Those with a family history of the disease should consider screening at a younger age. African Americans are also known to be at an increased risk for colorectal cancer.

Pharmacies distributing the screening kits include:

Salina's B&K Prescription Shop, CVS Pharmacy, Dillons Pharmacy, Key Rexall Health Mart Pharmacy, Walgreens, Walmart Salina, Salina Regional Health Center and Salina Family Healthcare Center.

Abilene's AuBurn Pharmacy, Patterson Health Care Pharmacy and Harvey Drug.

Concordia's AuBurn Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy.

Minneapolis' AuBurn Pharmacy.

Lindsborg's AuBurn Pharmacy.

The screening kits also can be picked up at the Salina-Saline County Health Department.

Grant funding from the Salina Charities League and Salina Regional Health Foundation is helping to underwrite the screening.

For more information about the free colorectal cancer screening kits contact Daniel Craig by calling (785) 452-4848 or email dacraig@srhc.com. Kits can also be mailed to interested participants by contacting Craig.

The Lindsborg Community Hospital Association was incorporated by the State of Kansas on May 31, 1944. Application for a 501-c3 was made and received in 1946 and was required to pursue funding from the Ford Foundation and commence fund-raising. The construction began in 1948 and was completed in time to care for the first patients in May, 1949.
