Dufour Counseling, LLC

Dufour Counseling, LLC Mental health therapy Welcome to the first step in seeking therapy. My approach is influenced by attachment theory, neuroscience research and mindfulness.

It can be a difficult decision, though it can be incredibly healing and I will provide a space for you to be heard and understood. Stress, anxiousness, feeling low or distracted can impact our lives in ways we don't want them, and seeking therapy can help. My areas of interest include trauma and abuse, post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and self esteem. I have an interest in supporting individuals that have experienced trauma, whether it was a one-time event or a long history of complex traumas starting in childhood. This can include having a history of being involved in an abusive relationship (physically, emotionally or psychologically or all of these together), dealing with a parent's substance abuse while growing up, being bullied as a child or adult, or observing traumatic incidences happening to someone else among many other situations. I offer the therapy of Brainspotting, which can identify and release negative experiences. I will work collaboratively with you and implement therapy techniques that will match your needs and comfort. I strive to provide a non-judgmental and compassionate environment for you to explore challenges of life, and assist in developing your desired goals. In addition to the above areas of practice, I also have a special interest working with the highly gifted and talented population. I will provide a space to explore the unique emotional and social challenges that may be affecting you, while also recognizing and supporting your strengths.

People often think of mental health as primarily about minimizing negative emotions but the ability to cultivate positive emotions can matter just as much. Here are 5 ways to start.

I love this message from Generation Mindful! We are always focused on January and making resolutions and change, though December is a great time to reflect on progress in our journey.

Practicing this a few times a day (but you can do it as much as you want), during brief moments can be so helpful to release tension and anxiety. At the stop light, while filling your water bottle, walking down the hall, in a waiting room, etc. It doesn’t have to be an hour long meditation (although that is really nice too). These short moments can help calm the nervous system.

So nice to be reminded of what we have available, that doesn’t cost money, to nurture ourselves.
