Kyle Meyer, ND To educate people about naturopathic medicine, nutrition, nutritional supplements, exercise, and overall health.

04/13/2026

Annual lobbying day on Capitol Hill for inclusion of naturopathic doctors like me in Medicaid in states where we are licensed as doctors and to explicitly include doctors of naturopathic medicine into the Dept. of Education’s definition of qualifying professional degrees. This is despite being recognized as a professional degree by the Dept. of Ed. since 1999 based on their own NCES tables.
-
-
If we are left out of being explicitly included in professional degrees or we don’t get the language restored to contain “professional degrees include but are not limited to…” our profession will crumble and fail to continue the pipeline of primary care trained naturopathic doctors. This also impacts other health professionals access to lending like PAs, NPs and nurses. Hopefully we make some headway 🤞🏼 Thanks y’all for the support, even if it means a like, comment or share over the years.

URGENT ACTION: Tell the Dept. of Education, ND IS a Professional Degree!
The Department of Education is continuing to accept public comments through March 2 on a draft rule that would exclude the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) from the “Professional Degree” designation. If finalized, this proposal would reduce federal student loan eligibility for future ND students by more than 50%, jeopardizing the stability of our educational institutions and limiting future patient access to naturopathic care.

Select the blue “Comment” button.
Write your comment which includes "Revise the draft rule to explicitly include the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree in the final definition of 'Professional Degree.'" Also, How has naturopathic care changed your life? What happens to your healthcare access if the pipeline of new doctors is cut by 50%?

Senate bill 904 was introduced yesterday that would license NDs like me as physicians in the State Of New Jersey! This marks the third consecutive legislative session I’ve been able to get this bill introduced.

NJ has a 2-year legislative session. This means you have 2 years to get a bill introduced, passed through Senate, passed through House (or in NJ it’s the Assembly), and get signed by the governor as a law. If you Bill does not complete this process by the end of the two years, you have to get it introduced and start all over again. Fortunately, the senators whom previously sponsored the bill introduced it again without meeting with me or a lobbyist. So blessed and Senator Lagana were interested in sponsoring this bill.

Some exciting news 🗞️ We got approved to be an elective rotation site for Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine for next year! Woo! A few months ago, the residency director for a local D.O. family practice residency site in my hometown reached out to me to ask about becoming an affiliate site. We’ve shared many patients over the years and she’s always referred people to us with hormone issues, complex cases, etc.
-
-
-
What this means is that osteopathic doctor residents that would like to do a 1 month elective rotation with our office will gain credits towards getting their D.O. medical license. This is important so our new traditionally trained medical school grads are aware of safe, alternative, and evidence-based options to help manage patient health issues. At the end of the day, you only know what you know. So excited to teach and learn what I can from this experience!

Today’s Election Day in the greatest country in the world. For a long time, I didn’t vote 🗳️ because I didn’t feel strongly about the candidates but what I realized is we need to take advantage of living in a democracy. Doing more lobbying on the state level makes me realize how important everybody’s vote is no matter which person you choose. We should be blessed to live in a democracy where we can choose the best candidate we believe in. I just hope one day we’re not as divided as we’ve become. Get out and vote y’all!

Last night, we were a sponsor for a nonprofit event for an old friend. We Make Autism at Work is a nonprofit that provides those with Autism employment opportunities through the partnerships they established. This event was to celebrate their 4th location, a partnership with a farm to table restaurant called Brick Farm Tavern that just started a month ago. The event included a 4 course menu that was prepared and cooked by the autistic men and women that have been working there for the last month. Grateful I’ve grown my business enough to be able to donate to amazing nonprofits like these.

This morning Willa was asked to be the usher for the collection at church. I grew up catholic and felt it created a foundation for me to better navigate stressful times. A month ago, I started taking Willa, and sometimes Rhett, to church. I want to share the faith that helped me grow into the person I am today. Do I think Catholicism is perfect? Definitely not but I do believe faith is important.

Several longitudinal and meta-analyses have found that frequent attendance at religious services is associated with lower risk of mortality (death), reduced incidence of depression, fewer suicidal behaviors and less substance use. I’ve always prayed, especially since my brother passed 10 years ago but I only started attending mass this year with my kids.

Boneset aka Eupatorium. Walking the dogs today, I saw a bee 🐝 on this beautiful flower. Last year, Dr. Hinchey taught me about its ability to inhibit NF-kB, IL-1B and TNF-alpha as an approach to managing the inflammation aspect of support patenting with Lyme Disease.

Last night, I organized our first high school reunion. It’s been 20 years and many of the people that came I haven’t seen since high school. It was a nice laid back environment and everyone seemed to have a great time.

Socializing seems to benefit health significantly. Not just for mental health but also for physical and cognitive health. Evidence is pretty strong regarding socialization and reducing risk of chronic diseases, improving mental health, improved quality of life and lower risk of all cause mortality (death from all causes). Be sure to implement socialization in your life even if it can make you uncomfortable at times.

Today is our town’s annual blueberry festival. The kids and I ran to our favorite local blueberry 🫐 farm and picked up 24 pints. These weeks, when blueberries are in season, we go through about 2 pints a day.

Blueberries, like some other fruits and vegetables, are rich with anthocyanins. Not only does this contribute to the color or pigment of foods but it appears to also be an important component of their health benefits. Moderate consumption, 1 cup per day, are associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, death, type 2 diabetes, brain protection, weight management and also to potentially improve the gut microbiome.

The Red White and Blueberry Festival is almost 40 years running. If you’re ever in town the last Sunday of June, come support our local businesses!

Best of the Jersey Shore 2025 2nd 🥈 place for Alternative Medicine. 3rd time we’ve won in our 4th year in business. First time we’ve got 2nd. Blessed to have had support from my family (especially my wife ), my business partner Glenn, and our success after opening November 2020 during the pandemic. Couldn’t do this without the support of our patients as well to allow me the opportunity to do something I love, giving patients options for how they want to support themselves.

It appears we missed out on getting an ND resident this year due to minimal desire for current license eligible NDs candidates to work in New Jersey. Hopefully we’ll find a good fit next year so we can shorten our current 11 month waitlist for new patients.
