Before modern parenting books…

There was a village.

Women who had done this before you.
People who could tell you:

“That’s normal.”
“You’re doing great.”
“Here’s what helped me.”

Somewhere along the way, that village disappeared.

So parents end up trying to figure out newborn life alone.

Our Blooming Bright Newborn Class is a small way we’re trying to bring that village back.

A space where expecting parents can learn from a mom and pediatrician:
• what newborn life really looks like
• how to navigate the first weeks
• what questions to ask your pediatrician
• what challenges are actually very normal

Free virtual class
Open to expecting parents and parents of newborns

Because parenting was never meant to be done alone.

Join us March 28 for a free virtual class 1pm EST.

When should you schedule your child’s yearly well visit? 1. Their birthday month. 2. Summertime! Summer is a great option because your kids don’t have to miss school and doctors offices tend to be slower in the summer, so there is less waiting. On the contrary, when is the worst tome to get that physical in?? The 2 weeks before and after school starts. Everyone wants or needs their school physical forms at that time, so you are almost guarantee to have longer waits to get the appointment and likely longer waits in the waiting room. Want to get your kiddos well visit scheduled? Give us a call! http://drjessicachacko.com/

Eczema is super common! And it can be super bad. If we have mild eczema, our thinner ambulance such as lotions and creams can work just fine. When we have severe eczema we need to step it up and use those thinner ones 5+ times a day or use a very thick ointment like Vaseline or Aquaphor or twice a day. Ideally we want to put these creams lotions or ointment on right after we get out of a short bath. We want to apply it to skin that is still damp. Never rub your kiddos skin dry, always pat or just rub in all of that moisture with your hand and not the towel.

We also wanna make sure we are using hypoallergenic detergents and soaps and deodorants and shampoos and conditioners. Hypoallergenic is not the same as all natural. All natural things can still be allergens. I think poison ivy. It’s natural, definitely irritates the skin.

Parenting is hard. There are days that may feel like it's too much. But, remember, not so long ago, this is the life you were dreaming about having.... And here you are in it. So, take a moment to find gratitude for you children, your home, your 5 minutes of peace in the day. Focus on the things you are grateful for, and not as much on the things you are struggling with. You may find the struggles get easier, just with that mind shift.

If you have a newborn at home and sleep feels… confusing right now, you’re not alone 💛

Short naps.
Long nights.
Days and nights mixed up.

That “day-night reversal” can feel especially hard in those early weeks — when you’re already tired and trying to figure everything out.

The truth is, so much of this is normal as your baby adjusts to life outside the womb.

But knowing what’s normal — and having a few gentle ways to support that transition — can make it feel a lot less overwhelming.

In this video, I walk through a few ways to help your newborn start finding their rhythm.
(Some of them might be different than what you’ve heard before.)

And this is something we go deeper into during our newborn class too —
not just sleep, but all the early questions that come up in those first few weeks.

And if you have questions, you’re always welcome to ask here 💛

Newborn weight loss in the first week of life for our newborns is totally normal. I share a story of a worried mom, but it all turned out OK. The baby regained her weight and has been thriving ever since. If your baby is losing weight, definitely check too with your pediatrician. But also know weight loss that is less than 10% of the weight is a normal and expected thing. We would like to monitor closely to make sure the weight loss is not too much, but it will happen. Especially if the baby was a C-section and or is being breast-fed.

Comment below with your own stories about newborn weight loss. Ask questions. Let me know your thoughts, worries, concerns.

🌴 PARENTS NEED VACATIONS TOO! 🌴

Today I'm tackling a topic that brings up ALL the feels: taking trips without your children.
In this video, I explain why occasional parent-only getaways aren't just nice—they're necessary for:

✅ Your mental health
✅ Your relationship with your partner
✅ Teaching your children about healthy boundaries
✅ Modeling the importance of self-care

As both a pediatrician and a parent, I've seen how these breaks benefit the ENTIRE family. Children learn resilience, independence, and the beautiful lesson that caring for yourself is part of caring for others.

Have you struggled with parent guilt around this topic? Or have you found that time away actually makes you a better parent? Share your experiences below!

At Blooming Bright Pediatrics, we're committed to supporting families through ALL aspects of the parenting journey—including helping you prioritize your own wellbeing without the guilt.

I’m a pediatrician.

But when I had my own babies, I had the same questions every parent has:

Is this normal?
Are they eating enough?
Why are they crying like this?

That’s why I created this class.

Not just to teach newborn care —
but to help you feel more calm, more prepared, and less alone.

Join me for a free virtual newborn class where we’ll walk through:
• feeding and sleep basics
• common newborn challenges
• what’s actually normal
• when to reach out for help
