Help your kids create meaningful New Year’s Resolutions—and guess what? These tips can work for you, too! I love using this time to reflect on how far we’ve come and set our intentions for the year ahead. Resolutions can be made as a family, individually, as a couple, or even as parent-kid duos. So many possibilities!

I suggest looking at 8 key areas for a balanced life, tailored to be age-appropriate for your little ones:

1. Spiritual/Religious/Humanitarian
2. Family
3. Friends
4. Physical Health
5. Mental Health
6. Finances – For younger kids, this could be saving for something special like a new bike or a trip to an amusement park.
7. Fun
8. Career – Ask your kids what they want to be when they grow up! Even if they change their minds later, it’s a great chance to explore. For example, my 4-year-old wants to be a teacher, so we can play educational games, have him teach his siblings, or practice public speaking!

Norovirus is making its rounds, ugh! What can we do, right?

First and foremost, let’s focus on keeping our kids hydrated. When their tummies are upset, small, frequent sips are the key! I love setting a timer for every five minutes. When it goes off, they take a tiny sip of water or any rehydration drink that you have handy. If they can manage some food, that’s great—just stick with plain water. But if they refuse to eat, go all out with rehydration formulas! Think Pedialyte, Powerade, other electrolyte drinks, or my ultimate favorite—coconut water. Yum!

Keep an eye on their belly pain. If it becomes severe or if vomiting lasts longer than three days, it’s time to ring up the doc. And if you notice they haven’t p*ed in 12 hours, that’s another reason to call ASAP! Our goal? A p*e every 6 to 8 hours. When I hit that eight-hour mark, I really push the fluids to avoid that 12-hour panic. If it comes to that, I often recommend some IV hydration.

I’d love to hear what your favorite rehydration formula is! And if you have any tips or tricks for keeping our little ones hydrated (they can be so stubborn!), share them in the comments!

Eczema is super common! And it can be super bad. If we have mild eczema, our thinner ambulance such as lotions and creams can work just fine. When we have severe eczema we need to step it up and use those thinner ones 5+ times a day or use a very thick ointment like Vaseline or Aquaphor or twice a day. Ideally we want to put these creams lotions or ointment on right after we get out of a short bath. We want to apply it to skin that is still damp. Never rub your kiddos skin dry, always pat or just rub in all of that moisture with your hand and not the towel.

We also wanna make sure we are using hypoallergenic detergents and soaps and deodorants and shampoos and conditioners. Hypoallergenic is not the same as all natural. All natural things can still be allergens. I think poison ivy. It’s natural, definitely irritates the skin.

As the year wraps up, it's time to consider your healthcare options for the coming year. Have you thought about joining a direct primary care practice? This is a model where you gain 24/7 access to your doctor, allowing you to call, text, or email whenever you need to. Most practices even guarantee same or next-day appointments!

The relationship you can build in a direct primary care setting is unlike anything you'll find in traditional insurance-based practices. Here’s how it works: with a membership model, you can lower your insurance costs since you'll depend less on it. A high deductible plan could be a smart choice if you’re part of a direct care practice, as your membership covers all primary care visits—including well checks, sick visits, urgent concerns, sports physicals, and more!

Since your direct care doctor gets to know you personally, many issues can be managed through a quick message or phone call. Without insurance dictating the practice of medicine, you won’t face unnecessary visits; your health needs come first.

If you're on the lookout for a direct care pediatrician in Lithia, FL, be sure to visit http://www.bloomingbrightpediatrics.com/ . If you’re elsewhere, check out https://mapper.dpcfrontier.com/ to find a direct care doctor nearby.

Join the movement that emphasizes a direct relationship with your healthcare provider—no middlemen, just you and your doctor. Make the switch to direct primary care today!
