Celebrating International Day of the Midwife!

We celebrated today by welcoming a beautiful baby girl earth side.

To all who have gone before us, and to all who continue to work tirelessly to improve maternal and infant outcomes, thank you!

Midwives deliver safe and environmentally sustainable health services and are first responders when climate disasters hit. For this reason, the theme for this year’s International Day of the Midwife (IDM), is Midwives: A Vital Climate Solution.

Today, In Season Birth and Wellness, LLC is one year old! We are so grateful for everyone who has been a part of this journey so far. There are so many people to thank...first, a huge shout out to our collaborating physician Dr Sharee Livingston. Your collaboration with us and other Nurse Midwives in our community makes our work possible. Thank you! To the fine folks at Lancaster Maternal Fetal Medicine...thank you for always being available for our wonderful patients and for your willingness to collaborate with us. To ALL the fabulous midwives, physicians, and birth workers in this community who we have met throughout this year, thank you! To our families and friends who have supported us as we took this leap, thank you! And most of all, to all of our wonderful clients who we have had the privilege of accompanying through this season, thank you! Thank you. Thank you. We are entering our second year with so much gratitude and anticipation for the year to come.

One year ago we did not know that In Season would exist. We are grateful for all the wonderful families we have met so far. Thank you for welcoming us into this most sacred space. This sunset caps off four days in which we witnessed three beautiful babies join their families. We really have the best job and we are filled with gratitude.

In June, In Season welcomed three beautiful babies into this world. To the families of Elijah, Arden, and Sadie we offer this Irish blessing.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Thank you for welcoming us into your lives and for allowing us to walk through this season with you.

We are thrilled to share that we had our first home birth this morning! More to come, but for now, we feel immense gratitude for this birth and all those to come. Happy Birthday, Arden! You are so loved.

Friends. The weather does not look promising tomorrow for our monthly mother's circle, so we have decided to cancel. Stay warm in your homes with a nice cup of hot tea! Stay tuned for future dates.

Mark your calendars for our monthly mother's circle/meet-up. Our second circle will be Saturday, April 29 at 10 - 11 or 11:30 a.m. at the Elizabeth Township Park in Brickerville (look for us in the open yard between the playground and pavilion). The timeframe is very flexible. We will provide a simple snack but feel free to bring what you need as well. Bring something comfy to sit on. If the weather is not good for being outside, we will reschedule. Look here for updates.

We are planning this time to be mom-to-mom support (babies in arms welcome). We will be there to help facilitate but also as moms ourselves. Feel free to spread the word. Come say hi!

The weather looks a bit dreary for tomorrow morning, but we are still planning on holding the first mother's circle. See the post below for additional details. We will find shelter at the park if it is raining, so dress warmly and we look forward to seeing you!

We have been thinking a lot about the concept of sustainability and will use that topic to guide our conversation if needed!
