𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗘𝗠𝗦 - 𝗕𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀

Here's our monthly look at stats for March, 2026. We handled over 400 dispatched 911 incidents (excluding scheduled and emergency transports), with most calls in Warwick Township (143) and Lititz Borough (112). Manheim Township added another 60 calls, with the rest spread across Elizabeth, Clay, Penn, and surrounding areas.

Looking at call types, the most frequent were for a sick person (85), fall injury (82), breathing problem (45), unconscious person (27), chest pain (24), medical alarm (13), heart problem (12), and psychiatric or emotional calls (11).

Most transports went to Penn Medicine Lancaster General (101) and UPMC Lititz (83), with additional volume to WellSpan Ephrata (32) and smaller numbers to Penn State facilities. We transport patients to the hospitals that best meet their needs.

Despite all those calls, our primary area received mutual aid coverage only 4 times. That's less than 1%.

We review this data regularly and make adjustments based on what we are seeing. That includes changes to staffing and deployment so that units are in the right places at the right times. One example of that was adding an additional paramedic and moving Brickerville to 24/7 coverage. That change was based on call volume and system demand. It gives us greater coverage flexibility and adds another layer of paramedic response in an area with limited resources.

This is the approach we take. Look at the data, understand the demand, and adjust so we can continue to serve the community effectively while still supporting surrounding areas when needed.

Warwick Community Ambulance is announcing the upcoming launch of its Premium Response Self-Dispatch Program, an innovative service initiative designed to provide expanded response options and enhanced transparency for those requesting emergency medical services.

Beginning May 1, the program will introduce a tiered response framework that allows callers to select from several response options, each designed to provide varying levels of service features and arrival preferences. The program incorporates elements such as response prioritization, unit tracking, and enhanced arrival options intended to improve the overall service experience.

The Premium Response program will include the following response levels:

Basic Response
No lights. No siren.
Guaranteed arrival within 30 minutes, or the transport is free.*

Silver Response
Lights and siren response.
Priority routing and live tracking of the responding unit on the app. Like DoorDash!
This tier also allows for optional add ons available for purchase in the app. Snacks, beverages, wi-fi and first run movies!

Gold Response
Our highest tier gives you all the options in the silver tier plus an exclusive Lights and Music experience! Instead of a siren, the ambulance will play your preferred arrival song at FULL VOLUME. (Includes yacht rock and classic hits.)

This new initiative reflects Warwick Community Ambulance’s continued commitment to exploring innovative approaches that enhance operational efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on community service and patient care.

Additional details about the Premium Response Self-Dispatch Program will be released in the coming weeks.

For updates and program information, visit WarwickEMS.org

Program launch scheduled for May 1.

*Transport fee still applies.

It’s National Doctors’ Day, and we want to recognize Christine Dang for the role she plays in our system every day.

Dr. Dang leads the emergency department at UPMC Lititz and serves as our medical director. She provides clinical oversight for our service, supports our providers in the field, and helps ensure the care we deliver is consistent, safe, and aligned with current standards of emergency medicine.

She reviews cases, offers guidance on complex calls, and works with our team to strengthen clinical decision-making and patient care. Her role helps bridge the gap between what happens in the field and what happens in the emergency department.

We’re grateful for her partnership, her accessibility, and her steady support of our team and the community we serve.

We held our employee appreciation party last night. Thank you to everyone who came out. We handed out a mix of awards, some fun, some recognizing strong clinical performance, along with plenty of door prizes. It was a great night spent with friends, family, and coworkers.

Having a team like this makes a difference. It makes the hard days easier, the long shifts more manageable, and it means you always have someone you can count on beside you. That matters.

We appreciate our team and value the chance to spend time together outside of the job.

Thank you to Rothsville Fire/Ambulance Company 24 for covering our first due area so our crews could take the evening off and a huge thanks to Dustin Weese for coming to take pictures!

We know not every call ends when you clear the hospital.

Some calls stay with you. Some are harder to process. Some follow you home.

That’s why we provide an Employee Assistance Program for our team.

It’s a confidential place to talk to trained mental health professionals.
No cost.
No obligation.
Anonymous.
No one else knows.

It’s there when you need it. Whether it’s one call that stuck with you or the buildup of a lot of calls over time.

This job takes a toll:

More than 40% of EMS providers report mental health challenges
Burnout affects over half of EMS clinicians
PTSD rates in EMS can be over 30%
EMS providers have a higher risk of su***de than the general public

We don’t expect our people to carry that alone.

Emergency medical services providers face severe mental health challenges, with 37% experiencing PTSD and higher su***de rates. Stigma and workload hinder access to support, risking lives.

Big congratulations to Maddie, Connor, Makayla, and Bri on completing the Methodologies of Instruction course and earning their Pennsylvania EMS Instructor certification!

They wrapped it up with final presentations today and did a great job. This is a big step, not just for them, but for our entire organization.

We’re proud to have them on our team and even more excited to see them step into the role of educating and shaping the next generation of EMS providers.

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the EMS funding crisis. The reality is, it’s a problem we’re dealing with right here.

EMS is one of the only public safety services that isn’t funded like police or fire. Instead, we rely heavily on insurance reimbursement, and that system is built around one thing: transport.

If we take a patient to the hospital, we can bill for the service. If we provide care on scene and the patient doesn’t need to go to the hospital, there is often little or no reimbursement.

Think about that.

We respond to overdoses, diabetic emergencies, falls, and breathing problems. We stabilize patients. We keep people out of the hospital when it’s safe to do so. We do exactly what the system should want us to do. And in many of those cases, we’re not paid for it.

At the same time, we carry the full cost of readiness.

Ambulances staffed and ready 24 hours a day
Highly trained EMTs and paramedics
Advanced equipment and medications
All of the logistics and information systems need to run the agency.

All of that has to be in place before the call ever comes in. You don’t get to build an EMS system when someone dials 911. It has to already be there.

That readiness is what saves lives. But it’s also what creates the financial strain.

Warwick Community Ambulance is not funded by tax dollars. We rely on a combination of billing, subscriptions, donations, and community support to keep this system running.

We’re getting ready to launch our 2026–2027 subscription drive.

This program helps cover a portion of the cost of readiness, the people, equipment, and systems that are in place before the call ever happens.

When you receive your mailing, take a moment to return it or subscribe online. Your support directly helps us stay ready to respond at any time.

You may not need us today. But when you do, we need to be here.

Medic 2-1, Intermediate 2-11 and EMS Chief 2 on scene at a medical emergency early last week. Sometimes an extra paramedic on scene makes all the difference. By staffing our coverage area carefully, we ensure multiple paramedics are available when a call requires additional hands or a higher level of care.
