The importance of making and setting goals is what I challenge you to. This year I wanted to focus on my health, and made a goal to run my very first 5k. Hoping many more to run, but we’ll shall see! I think we tend to make goals and forget them, as it’s easier to be complacent or not motivated. I challenge you to strive for a better you, and to make your health a priority!

April is National stress awareness month!!! Though there are good stressors, often we endure negative stress that impacts us daily without even knowing! Please take the time to cope and manage your stress levels by getting adequate sleep, exercise, and doing things that you enjoy!! Prolong chronic stress can have long term effects on your health and of course is a precipitator of depression etc.

Be more present on social media, to share, communicate, and explore.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the impact of domestic violence in children, partners, and families. Violence can be mental, emotional, financial, or physical abuse. Often times our system fails to recognize when others are truly in need of help.

During my graduate studies I was presented with the opportunity to facilitate groups for men whom had abused their partners. What I learned was that abuse is a power and control issue, an issue that many MEN fail to see the harm done to the people they love and care about continuing the cycle of violence.

I would like to share the power and control wheel, often referred to as the “Duluth Model.” If you or someone you know may be abused please call the National Domestic Violence hotline.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! So please do yourself some good and take some time for self-care. Something as small as brewing your favorite cup of coffee, an early rise to the sunset, or just being able to take 5 minutes of your time to breathe.
