The Commonwealth Fund's 2024 Health Disparities report is a wake-up call: racial health disparities exist in every state, even those with robust healthcare systems. This emphasizes the urgent need for targeted action to address systemic inequities. We need to work together to ensure health equity for all.

"Our hope is that policymakers, health system leaders, and community stakeholders will use this tool to investigate the impact of current and past health policies on different racial and ethnic groups and to take steps to ensure an equitable health care system for the future." (Authors: David C. Radley, Arnav Shah, Sara R. Collins, Neil R. Powe, Laurie C. Zephyrin)

Thank you Allison Memorial Presbyterian Church for your support. The Village Place’s and Arkansas Holistic Therapy’s Self-Care Summer Program would have been impossible without your support. It is refreshing to find churches that are willing to extend a hand and resources to ensure that people in the community get what is needed.

Allison’s easy willingness to support our vision to provide services to students in the LRSD in greatest need reminds me of the impetus for the creation of the Black church- to serve as a place to forge social change.

“The Black Church was the cultural cauldron that Black people created to combat a system designed to crush their spirit. Collectively and with enormous effort, they refused to allow that to happen. And the culture they created was sublime, awesome, majestic, lofty, glorious, and at all points subversive of the larger culture of enslavement that sought to destroy their humanity.”

THANK YOU ALLISON FOR CONTINUING TO BE A CULTURAL CAULDRON IN OUR COMMUNITY.

Henry Louis Gates’ new book on the Black Church traces the institution’s role in history, politics, and culture.
