I always love receiving updates from babies I've gotten to work with.
I first met Madison and her mama when I worked at Arkansas Children's. Breastfeeding was not easy for them, but Christina had clear goals and was highly motivated.
When little brother Jaxson was on the way, Christina decided to register for my prenatal breastfeeding course. Even though she had tons of experiential learning from nursing Madison, she wanted her second breastfeeding experience to go smoother.
I got to meet Jaxson in his home at two days old for a preventive breastfeeding visit. Things were off to a great start initially, but within a few days, Christina's milk still hadn't come in. Because Christina was informed and proactive, she was able to identify the signs of dehydration, and we were able to rapidly adjust her feeding strategy.
One of the things I feel most passionate about is coming alongside moms for more than just our in-home appointment. While we can accomplish a LOT in two hours face to face, so much can change day to day in the life of a newborn. For this reason, every single appointment automatically includes a full week of ongoing care. This allows me to best meet the ever-evolving and intertwined needs of mother and baby.
Jaxson is now 2.5 months old, and those early nursing woes seem like distant memories. His chubby cheeks are perfect, and so is his big sister's proud smile.
Great work, Christina!
