It's been forty years since the first cases of HIV and this documentary, "Cashing Out," demonstrates the desperate actions that were taken for many who were dealing with living with AIDS.

It was amazing to learn that folks were selling their life insurance policies for funds to sustain themselves until their ultimate deaths. Not to mention the "death factor," that was sold to investors who bought these policies. This practice was done because there was no HIV health infrastructure or wrap around services as we have it today or as it could be undone with budgets cuts.

The spirit and energy of those times are needy again as we face government uncertainty in funding this ongoing health challenge. We are asking for PLW to reach out to info@arrapps.org to share your concerns, struggles, fears and successes. Check out this documentary and let us know what you think.

Matt Nadel’s documentary short explores the moral complexities of buying the life-insurance policies of H.I.V.-positive gay men.

Great interview in regard to the "Dying Years," of HIV in America and Arkansas. These insurance viatical products were being used all over the place. It was a time where desperation resulted in desperate moves.

Arkansas RAPPS is alerting communities that the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) is warning residents enrolled in SNAP to prepare for a possible delay or disruption in November benefits if the federal government shutdown continues into next month.

DHS says it is awaiting guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) — the agency that oversees SNAP — and will share updates as soon as they are available.

👉 What you should know:
• The shutdown may delay November SNAP benefits or prevent them from being issued on time.
• If you have unused benefits from previous months, it’s recommended to use them now to purchase shelf-stable foods that can last through November and beyond.
• The SNAP retail system may block purchases starting Nov. 1, even if you still have funds on your card.
• Expect possible delays in processing applications and renewals, but recipients should continue to report household changes and submit any requested paperwork or verification documents.
Stay tuned for official updates from DHS and USDA as the situation develops.

Consider making a charitable donation at www.arrapps.org to support our nutritional program that offers a bi-weekly free food giveaway.

We will end new HIV infections in Arkansas when all residents have access to health education, screenings, advocacy, and care services.
