Barefoot Studio was founded in 1995 and is located at 3515 Old Cantrell Road behind the restaurant Loca Luna in the Riverdale business district in Little Rock, Arkansas, just minutes from Downtown, and a short 15 minute drive from Maumelle and North Little Rock. Barefoot is the longest running Yoga studio in Arkansas, and has been named "Best Yoga Studio in Central Arkansas" in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 by The Arkansas Demo-zette, Sync Weekly, Arkansas Times, AY Magazine, Natural Awakenings Magazine, and Soiree' Magazine. The studio is open seven days a week and offers classes for beginner, intermediate, advanced, self practice, restorative, yin, hot, prenatal yoga, mommy & me, and much more!

“Hi y’all, my name is Emily Fenton Samour and yesterday I celebrated my 136th class at Barefoot!

As a working musician and artist, my yoga practice helps ground me in discipline and consistency. Through Barefoot, I have discovered that amazing things happen when you continue to show up for yourself with grace and compassion.

My yoga and artistic practice go hand in hand. Showing up to my mat teaches me to create without judgment, to meet myself where I’m at in any given moment, and to give myself the freedom to take risks fearlessly; whether I’m in the yoga studio or the recording studio.

"My name is Claire and I’m an addict 🙂 I’ve been in recovery for 21 years and I am so grateful for that. After I took the substances away I realized I had a lot of anxiety. When I found yoga almost 12 years ago it was and has been a game changer for me and my anxiety. Physically and spiritually I get so much from my practice. From meditating to flowing to finding my edge - it has all helped me center and find some emotional balance. Barefoot, specifically, has been such a welcoming, loving, “come as you are” atmosphere from the very beginning. I have sung my heart out (with my bff Chelsea) during classes, cried after my grandmother died, held hands with my sister after we had been through a rough time - all while on my mat at Barefoot. It would take too long to list all the teachers there and why each one is so amazing but ALL the teachers are so kind and truly authentic. I am so grateful to have found yoga and Barefoot. “Hello fellow yogis!

Never thought I’d be a yogi but then again, I don’t think I ever thought I’d do half the things I’ve done in my life. Sometimes stuff just happens!

I thought I would end up as a teacher with my French major. I didn’t plan to land my first job with an import shoe company and started translating for them - it happened by chance. This lucky break lead to a 26 year career with various shoe companies both stateside and abroad. Then I decided to go back to school to study nutrition at the age of 48 as I loved to cook and was intrigued by the nutrition/disease relationship. I held several interesting jobs as a dietitian - my favorite being the one where I helped UAMS set up their Culinary Medicine program. I retired in 2022 and am busier than ever.

Retirement is the best job I’ve ever had! I spend my time thrifting to stock my booth - Life is Beautiful - (booth PW05) at The Cotton Shed Vintage Market, hanging out with my partner, Sam, family and friends, teaching ESL, cooking, gardening, traveling when I can and taking care of 4 rescue animals. And practicing yoga!

Yoga helps me with flexibility and strength as well as finding peace through self-reflexion. I’ve always been active - whether it be as an equestrian, a runner, and as I’ve gotten older, a walker and a yogi.”

💫 MEDITATION CLASS 💫

▪️Peggy is excited to offer a Meditation Class!
Saturday, April 11 @ 3 PM

▪️This class is included in your class packages, monthly, drop-in, or first week free.

🌿Designed for people new to meditation as well as experienced meditators, this workshop includes walking, seated, and reclined practices. We will explore several breathing practices and conclude with a relaxing body scan.

👕Wear comfortable clothes and bring a pillow, a blanket, and an eye bag, if you have one. If you don’t have an eye bag, bring a soft wash cloth.

🕯️We have a few mats for borrowing at the studio - you are welcome to bring your own. There are blocks available for use as well.

“I am very fortunate to be surrounded by strong, intelligent, loving and powerful women in my community. Often I like to reflect on the women who came before me, the ones who laid the foundation for the good that exists in the collective feminine. It’s an honor to read and research the women that helped shape the ancient practice of yoga on a global scale.

Indra Devi and Lilias Folan were both, in their own right, known as The First Lady of Yoga.

In 1938 Devi became the first woman and first foreigner to study under Sri T. Krishnamacharya, changing his views on women in yoga for the better. He said, “If we do not encourage women, the great Indian tradition will die…in difficult times every rule has an exception.”

In 1970 Folan began Lilias, Yoga and You on a Cincinnati PBS station, by 1973 it was a nationally broadcast PBS show that carried on for three decades. She offered 30 minute Hatha yoga sessions creating accessibility to a wide audience of people in the comfort of their home.

Both women made sharing yoga part of their life work and both authored several books, ensuring generations could benefit from their teachings of yoga.

Thank you Barefoot Studio, for being a constant in my life, whether I’m thriving or surviving that week I always know I have a safe place to land and can seek comfort on my mat.
