Rest is more than sleep. It is a gift from God that allows our bodies and minds to recover, renew and prepare for what’s ahead. Yet many Black Americans experience less sleep and poorer sleep quality, increasing the risk of serious health issues. Making rest a priority is a way to protect your health and strengthen your spirit!

What You Can Do to Rest:
- Set a routine: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
- Unplug early: Turn off screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Create peace: Keep your sleeping area quiet, cool, and comfortable.
- Stay consistent: Rest when your body needs it, not only when you are exhausted.
- Reflect and pray: End your day with gratitude and quiet time before sleep.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City of Pine Bluff, AR - Government Ward 1 Director, LaTisha Brunson to host their No Cost Food Market last week.

Access to fresh fruit and veggies at no cost helps to ease food insecurity in neighborhoods like Ward 1 in Pine Bluff, home to a food desert. 🥒🍎

Hosted at the Pine Bluff / Jefferson County Library System, we brought our mobile health unit to provide important health screenings for attendees and Josh and his team at Well Fed brought fresh produce and shelf stable items.

The team from Grace Community Garden was present to demonstrate the ease in starting a home garden and UAPB - School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences was on-hand to show attendees how to make a healthy black bean salsa. Yummy! 😋

Thank you, Library director Mr. Ricky for ensuring we had plenty of space for the mobile health unit.

Thank you, Director Brunson for allowing us to partner in this way. Just like the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, City of Pine Bluff is

: Arkansas ranks near the bottom in national oral health indicators like the absence of cavities and tooth decay.

🦷Last week, we participated in the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Lives Film Screening and Health Fair at Ron Robinson Theatre.

🦷We enjoyed meeting everyone and providing important health screenings. Poor oral health is thought to increase the risk of heart disease.

🦷Talk with your healthcare provider about ways to improve your oral health.

Thank you, Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation, Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, Reimagine Arkansas, and the Visionairi Foundation, for your amazing work!

Arkansas Minority Health Commission: Your Health. Our Priority.

At the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, our goal is to be a catalyst in bridging the gap in the health status of the minority population and that of the majority population in Arkansas. To accomplish this, the commission focuses on addressing existing disparities in minority communities, educating these communities on healthier lifestyles, promoting awareness of services and accessibility within our health care system, and making recommendations to relevant agencies, the Governor and to the state legislature.
