Finding Tranquility Where You Are

I'm a city girl enjoying country living. Didn't see this way of life coming. That is, until Bob brought me to Stone of Scone Farm. Everything is different and for the better. Simple pleasures are good enough: like gazing at morning sunrises and faraway planets in the stillness of night. Or witnessing nature's beauty through abundant florals and trees that envelop the land. Then there's our free of pesticides vegetable garden and potted herbs. I am learning to live with a few insects that serve a purpose in a plant's cycle of growth. Even my dog, Daisy, is happier than she has ever been and gets plenty of exercise running after the rabbits and squirrels.

Stone of Scone Farm is where life was bringing me. Such beauty and serenity should be shared with others. I do so through pictures and videos that many of you have seen. And we are welcoming although, for now, with masks and social distancing.

For as long as I can remember, my desire was to create a tranquil environment that promoted mind, body, and spirit wellness. I didn't know where, yet knew it was needed, particularly when life's challenges are insurmountable. We are living in unsettling times; Stone of Scone Farm is a place of peace. Years ago when the German immigrants arrived on this land, there was Native American presence; they lived in peace. We could learn something from them.

As an African American woman who was raised in a segregated South, and who has a son, a brother, and nephews, I feel every emotion that many others within my culture feel. Change is a process and racial parity is long overdue. We all can benefit from dialogues that promote understanding and behavior change. Racism and thoughts of being victimized can erode any semblance of mind, body, and spirit wellness. We are souls in human bodies, and race is a social construct that divides us. How wonderful it would be to celebrate the richness of our shared humanity.

I encourage you to take a journey inward, to the seat of your soul, and consider how you can contribute to a well society. There is no peace where injustices of any kind exist. How do I find peace when there are storms? By centering in nature's stillness, living in wellness, honoring that Bob and I were chosen to preserve this land, and sharing it with others. Where do you find your peace? Is mind, body, and spirit wellness important to how you live your life? What does happiness mean to you?

I believe we have it in ourselves to awaken to a new reality of what it means to be human, and what it means to live and love through The Divine.

Let’s use this time to reflect on the creation of a new narrative, one that changes how we treat each other. Let’s not adhere to greed, anger, division, and other acts of cruelty that breed separation and hurt.

I am blessed to live on this farm, this land that offers me immense time for reflection. I want something different and will be the change in my small way. If we all commit to shared humanity, it is my belief that the Divine will grant us grace. ❤️

I see through artist eyes. Walking the grounds at Stone of Scone Farm, I find inspiration everywhere. Fresh air and morning’s glory, early blooms, greening leaves, and other forms of nature’s beauty stimulate ideas beyond the scope of my imagining. 🌳🌺

I take a deep breath, breathe in this magical place that I call home, and mentally organize my palette. Ideas flow in vivid colors. There are no obstacles, only opportunities. My purpose is clear. Art has no boundaries, so I just let it go. What inspires you to look at your life’s purpose differently?

I have been hurt and not just by my enemies. The biggest hurt is when it comes from those that we love. My heart has been broken. This has happened more times than I can count. Being your authentic self can leave you vulnerable to other people's unresolved issues within themselves. Yes. Life can be difficult. Yet no matter what you are going through or struggling with, someone else is fighting a bigger challenge. It's important to remember that we are all breakable. Instead of judging, shaming, or excluding others, choose love and kindness today and every day. Rain and sunshine create rainbows. Look for the rainbow.

Life's journey is never-ending. There is always room for improvement, adversity, and growth. To overcome obstacles that stand in our way, we must accept that growth is a continuous element in our journey and that knowledge is power. Taking time to nourish your mind is just as important for self-love and growth as nourishing your body and soul. Each season at Stone of Scone Farm nourishes my mind and soul in a way that offers me tremendous growth opportunities. What steps will you take to encourage your inner growth?

Finding My Calm At Stone of Scone Farm

Take a deep breath, relax, and find your inner calm. Stone of Scone Farm is where I found mine. How? Through what it offers me in mind, body, and spirit wellness and through my husband Bob’s commitment to the farm’s preservation.

We cannot repudiate our historical past for it made us who we are, as a nation and as a people. This land and its structures are more than 200 years old and began with a land grant from the Penn Family to German immigrants who came to America for a better life. Bob and I see it as our personal mission to preserve and share the beauty of this farm with others. We honor what its earliest residents strived so hard to achieve and do not desire Stone of Scone Farm suffer the decay and destruction of many other historic properties.

Because of my higher education background, I desire to establish the Academy at Stone of Scone Farm, where thought leaders would speak on topics of value to a community of learners, particularly young people who must carry on. Stone of Scone Farm is an ideal place for such gatherings because of its serenity and linkages to a proud past. Our farmhouse, registered as a Civil War Building, and our barn, recognized as Adams County’s 2019 Barn of the Year, speak to the importance of preservation for generations to come.

We may have hurdles to overcome on the journey, yet our commitment is unwavering. Nothing worth accomplishing for the greater good comes easy. Yet faith and vision are motivators. Many thanks to all who believe in the promise of what is achievable when we find common ground.
