Throughout my time in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, there were key moments that shaped the way I approach patient care. Seeing this image was one of them. In the image, which is the cross section of the thigh, the dark areas represent muscle, while the lighter areas show fat.

Since I primarily work with older adults, I often hear about being 'too old' to exercise.

It’s important to understand that it’s never too late to start exercising, and you're never too old to stay active. In fact, as shown in the image, a 70-year-old triathlete can have nearly the same amount of muscle as a 40-year-old triathlete.

Stiff Lower Back? Let's Talk Flexibility and Strength!

Maintaining a neutral spine while lifting is crucial for preventing injury. But did you know that a lower back that doesn’t flex can also be problematic? 😲

Spinal flexibility is just as important as stability. A stiff lower back can lead to discomfort, limited mobility, and even increased injury risk.

Start with lumbar flexion exercises with cupping to prepare your back (aka neuromuscular reeducation) before diving into weighted Jefferson Curls. This can help enhance flexibility and strength, ensuring your spine moves freely and safely.
