Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America, according to the American Lung Association. If you’re at risk for : the good news is that regular screenings can find lung cancer early, when it's most treatable.

Not sure if you should get screened? If you smoked, consider taking the American Lung Association’s risk quiz. It can help you find out if you should talk to your doctor about screening.

Updated lung cancer screening guidelines from The American Cancer Society:
- age 50-80
- 20 pack years (1 pack of ci******es daily for 20 years or an equivalent)

No longer matters how long ago you quit smoking. A yearly CAT scan of your chest is recommended if you meet the above criteria.

If you meet this criteria, let's discuss it at CPI; call (303)952-1100 to schedule an appointment.

CPI recommends the RSV vaccine this fall to our patients at least 60 years old with chronic heart or lung disease, immunocompromised, live in a skilled nursing facility. We will not provide the vaccine in our clinic due to Medicare coverage but you can easily get it at local pharmacies (covered under Medicare Part D). It can be given at the same time as flu or COVID vaccines. Feel free to schedule an appointment with us if you have further questions or concerns.

New BIVALENT COVID VACCINE Q&A:
What does it cover?
- BA4/5 - most recent Omicron variant
- Original strain (in case it mutates & comes back)
- Dose of the vaccine is the same so not getting “double the dose”

Who needs it?
- Everyone

When do they get it?
- 2 months after last vaccine dose (2nd of primary series or any booster)
- You do not need to have both “boosters” to get this Bivalent vaccine
- If someone is wondering if they should get the 2nd booster or wait for the Bivalent to be available, wait for the new bivalent
- As soon as you have recovered from COVID infection, you are eligible to get this new Bivalent vaccine
BUT SHOULD YOU??
1. Natural immunity probably lasts up to 3mths so no rush to get the Bivalent w recent infection

Other things to consider on timing:
- This vaccine will likely have the best immunity for 6mths - best to get it to cover the winter months of Oct -Mar
- Reasons to get it sooner than Oct: 1) You are immunocompromised
2) You have an event coming up that could be a “superspreader” (wedding,
etc) - should get it 2wks prior

CPI office does not yet have this new vaccine, hopefully by the end of September. Stay tuned here for updates.
