Hi EveryBody -
I want to let you know of our Nia Candlelight Celebration happening tomorrow, Friday, January 2nd at Buck Rec Center. Doors will open at 4 pm, class will start around 4:30 pm, and we should be finished up by 5:30 pm. We will honor the Solstice - the return of the sun, the holidays that many of us just celebrated, and the New Year - the turning over of a new leaf. We will use candles and lights as symbols of the return of the lights, the lights of the holidays, and the start of new things.

If you like, wear "light" colors to light our space. I will have white temporary tattoos to decorate ourselves before the class.
Julia and I have crafted a warm, welcoming, energizing playlist for this event.

Please feel free to bring friends as the choreography won't be too complicated for this one, and we'd love the company! This is a drop in class, everyone welcome, regardless of ability - chairs and exercise balls will be available.

Hope to see you tomorrow!
Loelle and Julia

Finished up our week of Miracle - just peeked at the original video, and decided to share a little clip. Just look at all the joy - really miss that aspect in current versions. Also to prove I didn’t make the bundle up 😉
Enjoy!!!

The Nia routine Miracle is my favorite - closest to a masterpiece we have been given as teachers. Just taught it today after a long while - and it felt so good. Come dance Miracle with me this week!

Also - tomorrow (Tuesday) come to our Holiday Gathering at Michele’s house after our class (around 11:15) for coffee, tea, and fellowship. Bring a snack to share if you would like.
DM me for the address.

Group fitness classes aren’t just about exercise, Mikala Jamison wrote in 2024. https://theatln.tc/z5fhRvrd

When Jamison was teaching indoor cycling, she was the nicest version of herself: “warm, welcoming, and encouraging to the point of profound corniness, despite my usual caustic tendencies,” she writes. People that met in her class started dating; strangers went out for coffee. “These experiences have convinced me that group fitness classes are the best place to make friends as an adult,” she continues, “an idea supported by research that suggests that the glow of exercise’s feel-good chemicals has interpersonal benefits.”

Once, friendships were born in what the sociologist Ray Oldenburg called “third places”: physical spaces that aren’t a home or a workplace, don’t charge (much) for entry, and exist in large part to foster conversation. Group classes don’t quite fit in that definition—they can cost money, and their primary activities are “sweating, grunting, and skipping a few reps when the instructor isn’t looking,” Jamison writes. “But they fulfill many conditions that social-psychology research has repeatedly shown to help forge meaningful connections between strangers: proximity (being in the same place), ritual (at the same time, over and over), accumulation (for many hours), and shared experiences or interests (because you do and like the same things)”—a less awkward way to find people with similar interests than at work or at a party.

Even if you don’t find your next best friend at Zumba class, getting into a fitness habit might help you step out of your comfort zone and make more friends in other spaces.

“A room full of grown adults flailing, shouting, and running miles without ever going anywhere is a fundamentally ridiculous prospect,” Jamison continues. “Ridiculous things, however, play a crucial role in connecting with others: They make us laugh.”

Dance with us!!!!

I found the movement practice Nia when my second child was an infant, and immediately fell in love. Nia spoke the language I was looking for - listening to my body and finding health and wellness within. In November 2008 I took my Nia White Belt Teacher Training, starting teaching in February of 2009. I have taught all over the south metro area, and subbed even further. I love teaching what I sense, and facilitating others to find their own Health through Movement.

I am currently teaching Nia at Buck Rec Center in Littleton (along with Foundations for People with Parkinsons and HoopCore Fitness) and at Littleton Contemporary Dance Center in west Littleton.
