You stay up late doomscrolling which causes you to hit snooze on your alarm one too many times.
Now you’re rushing to get ready for work,
you don’t have time to make breakfast or coffee.
You leave the house on an empty stomach
and rush to the coffee shop.
The line is long. The wait is longer.
Your feelings of frustration grows by the second.
You meet the barista without a smile + order your coffee.
A few minutes pass by, you’re watching the clock anxiously.
You’re late for work.
The barista calls your name, finally -
She serves your coffee.
It’s hot. You wanted iced.
All of the frustration, stress, and anxiety swells within you
- roaring through your body like a wildfire.
You inform the barista that she’s messed up your order.
Each word threaded with anger and disappointment.
She apologizes for her human mistake and offers to make it right.
You tell her with an unkind tone that you will wait, again.
She returns with your coffee and you grab it off the counter.
Without a thank you, you leave.
Still angry. Still late. Nothing in your belly.
Still rushing.
This cycle continues through the day, your attitude getting worse with each hour that passes.
You’re annoyed by everything and everyone.
The only person you should be annoyed with here, is yourself.
Now, imagine that you had went to bed at a reasonable hour the night before. You woke up on time, you ate a healthy breakfast, had time to stop for coffee….you weren’t in a rush. You were well rested and nourished.
Things would look so differently if you had just made the effort to take care of yourself.
You’d have the capacity to meet others with more patience and kindness.
When you take care of yourself, you’re a better you.
If we all showed ourselves a little bit more love,
imagine how much kinder this world could be.
You have the choice to become a beacon of light within a sea of darkness. To do this, you need to take care of yourself.
