“Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong”—Johann Hari was the director of a 3-year-long field study that used data from over the last 30 years. What was he studying?
Hari determined a significant correlation between bonds, the lack of bonds, and addiction.
“The opposite of addition is not sobriety. The opposite of addition is connection.”

Hari found that a deeper connection with society can decrease a country's drug use by 50%.
In individuals he found that there is an approximate 95% recovery rate from addiction.

★ 31% of transgender people have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.
★ 12% have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
★ 10% have had a history of Substance Use Disorder.
★ More than 40% of transgender adults have had at least 1 su***de attempt.
★ 86% of transgender people have experienced some form of assault because of their presentation.

Below are statistics for the brave veterans who sacrificed pieces of themselves for civilians.
★ 1 in 5 Vets of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are diagnosed with either PTSD or MDD.
★ Among all veterans, about 23% achieve a positive screening for PTSD.
★ 1 in 10 veterans struggle with alcohol or drug abuse.
★ 23% if Veterans have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
★ Roughly 32,882 veterans have experienced homelessness in the last 10 years.

Recovery is a daily process that isn't discussed nearly enough. Mindfulness is a great introduction to daily recovery. What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a daily practice that can help facilitate change in your life.
To be mindful is to be aware and present in daily activities. Reducing distractions and creating a deeper connection with the things in your life.
Here are a few practices you can try today:
● Mindful Eating– Eating without distractions. No music, people, or videos. Just sitting and feeling the food in your mouth. Exploring the taste of the food and taking your time to enjoy and appreciate your meal.
● Meditative Walk—Anywhere outside, take a walk without headphones and without destination. While walking, observe what you can hear, feel, smell, see, and taste. Walk for 10-20 minutes.
● Practicing Gratitude—Determine something you are grateful for immediately. Then determine something you were grateful for yesterday. Then last week. See how far back you can go. This can be verbal, in your head, or journaled.
