An Angel Remembered

An angel by the name of Azai Maki Thomas was given by God to LaDovie Thomas and Terry Collier on October 13, 2023.

Although our time with him was far too short, our hearts will forever be filled with joy and honor, for we were blessed to be graced with his beautiful presence. Azai’s life, though brief, touched many and will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.

Azai leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving mother, LaDovie Thomas; his father, Terry Collier; his siblings, Ollin Viles of Florida, Bry’onna Bennett of Tampa, Florida, Terry Collier III of Madison, Florida, and Tayler Collier of Perry, Florida.

He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Terry (Michelle) Collier, Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida, and the late Vernelser Hamilton of Perry, Florida; his maternal grandparents, Elder Jerry (Lillie) Thomas of Live Oak, Florida, and the late Vera Thomas of Preston, Georgia.

The staff and management of Marcus A. Allen Funeral Home, Inc. extend our deepest love, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to the Thomas and Collier families. During this tender and difficult time, please know that we stand beside you, walk with you, and remain committed to providing compassionate care, comfort, and unwavering support every step of the way.

We are honored to share moments from the beautiful and reverent Homegoing Celebration of Mr. Stephen Dukes Sr. a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and phenomenal pianist. His life was celebrated with grace and love at African Baptist Church in Live Oak, Florida, presided over by Reverend Linda Dukes.

The Holy Scriptures were read by Rev. Mahalia Allen and Rev. Terrell L. Blair, Sr., followed by a powerful prayer offered by Deacon Willie McClendon. The Marcus A. Allen Ensemble uplifted the service with songs from Zion, filling the sanctuary with praise and comfort. Heartfelt reflections were shared by his longtime friend Rev. Steve Miller, and by his dear friend and neighbor from Fort Lauderdale, Sis. Linda Anderson. Words of Comfort were delivered by Rev. Alexander Fountain, Pastor of African Baptist Church.

Family and friends then lovingly laid him to rest at East Side Memorial Cemetery concluding a truly memorable and dignified celebration of life.

What a wonderful tribute rendered for the late Mr. Stephen Dukes Sr. May these photos reflect the love, faith, and legacy he leaves behind.
