Unpopular opinion:
Smart strength training during their season,

And…

Solid strength training off season are likely better choices than 9 months of 1 sport and another agility clinic… (at least if you’d like them to avoid overuse and other injuries… and improve performance).

Also. I love this group of kids. Not one of them had strength trained before this… we’ve watched many of them grow up over…

Pretty excited to see how they continue to grow…

Oh. And most of their moms (and a few Nan’s)
are in the next room getting stronger too 😘

To you this looks like running… to this looks like a return to something she LOVES (she even smiled as she ran 🤯)!

It also looks like hope and progress from months of hard work and a whole buncha Dr Jackie PT wisdom.

Meet Kim. Kim Ryder

We aren’t supposed to have favorites… but we do 😉

What this woman has accomplished in a ridiculously short time needs to be celebrated …

Knee replacement, metal in both feet & both shoulders & extended time as a tremendous care giver (if you meet her, you’ll know she was amazing).

When she started, she was struggling to walk the 40 foot length of the room comfortably.

Goals: back to swimming at UMF; horseback ride again, hike in the woods with her dog; eventually hike the Appalachian trail.

4 weeks. 8 sessions. Kim gave her ALL. I’m so freaking proud of her - more importantly, she’s proud of herself ❤️

I could go on for days about her determination, her commitment that she then applied to ALL areas of her life so she made amazing and fast progress; her desire to work to her full capacity - she’s no frail lady; her integrity in doing every rep - and taking on more every time she could; how she asks questions; wants to learn and grow - and how she NEVER ONCE gave up, and she won’t.

Some of her wins before & after…

2 inch step ups ➡️ 12 inch
24 inch box squat holding post ➡️ 12 inch no weight AND weight bench with 2x15 pound DBs
40 foot walking ➡️ 1/2 Mile warmup
Unsupported sitting
Taking steps like a champ
40 # farmers carry
3x:30 sec plank
Learned to bench pressed & deadlift (DB, Kb, hex bar AND conventional)
Rounds of 15 # slam balls
Back to swimming
Obstacle course to mimic hiking, roots, climbing
70 bales of hay loaded, unloaded and stacked

And most importantly, she’s back in charge of her life, tackling everything (and I’m guessing everyone 👀😉) in her path - and she has an intentional focused plan to keep going…

she just needed to remember what she’s capable of ❤️

Thanks to UMF UMF FRC for allowing me in to do Kim’s final session in your gym so she’s ready to go! I truly appreciate your hospitality.

If you know Kim or see her at the gym (she’ll be in the weight room now!!) - cheer her on, tell her to fix her face, and stand tall.

Then. Let her encourage YOU to take the next hard step towards your goals.

There are a lot of ways to reach the same end goal…

Sometimes coaches/trainers are way too focused on looking clever, unique, not ever letting athletes “get bored” or making them feel like they will fail without them…

Weird. That doesn’t sound particularly athlete focused after all…

Solid coaches can simplify the most complex things.

Hint: trg basically boils down to squat, hinge, push, pull, carry… and we just change the implement and loading… thanks Heather McAllister 😉

Solid coaches can also help you make changes and find ways to safely train around injuries (if the doc says ok :)) - and not make you feel like a nuisance for asking…

Expect your coaches to coach. It’s literally their job - and they chose it 😉

Ps: come in for 1-on-1 or group training.
