There are approximately 53 million unpaid family caregivers providing more than 600 BILLION equivalent dollars in economic value. When I onboard a new care management client my focus is as much or more than that on the chosen family caregivers. They did not ask for this job and yet they take it on with grace, duty and pride.

But I often see people guilt-ridden when they take just a small bit of time for themselves. This is not sustainable. To quote one of the interviewees: "Healthy caregivers make better caregivers... I’m no good to her if I’m fat, broke, and miserable.”
