The first core value of the Play Awhile approach is Yes, And. If you’ve ever taken an improv class, you’ll know this isn’t an original idea. But it may be original to speech therapy! The idea behind Yes, And, is that we follow a playful bid, then make it even more fun. Example: Your child initiates a game of “peekaboo” with their blanket. You join in for a few rounds of the traditional game (that’s the yes) then surprise them by putting your head under the blanket with them for a “boo” of your own (that’s the and). It doesn’t have to be big, it just has to be fun!
