Therapy Tip from the Bluestone BCBAs - timers:
⏰timers provide visual and auditory input to support smooth transitions.
⏰ timer becomes the “bad guy” in giving a new direction. For example we could say, “Timer says it’s time to go!”
⏰ creates consistency and predictability for future transitions.

Babbling or “stimming” on AAC is actually great for your child’s language growth! This supports their ability to know where icons are, understand sounds, and invite reciprocal interactions. This all contributes to intentional communication🗣️

Support your child by:
🧩allowing them to explore their device
🧩validating and responding
🧩join in and make it playful
🧩gently offer new language by modeling
🧩incorporating their interests into play

Wait.... crawling isn't a milestone anymore? 🤯

Crawling was removed as a gross motor milestone from the CDC and AAP in 2022 however, crawling is still an important activity for development.

Crawling is baby’s first form of independent locomotion and is a stepping stone developing future walking skills as well as baby’s balance system, coordination, sensory system, cognition, strength, alignment and vision.

Toe walking is NOT a part of normal development - is a specific and individualized abnormal movement pattern and should be treated as such.

Toe walking is not just "tight muscles" it can be caused by dysfunctions within several sensory systems and cannot be resolved until those systems are addressed.

Reach out to a physical therapist if you have questions regarding toe walking! 👣
