Soaking in nature🌿

We’ve welcomed a new addition to our EverVeda sanctuary: a handcrafted cedar wood chlorine-free tub !. The warm water and natural cedar oils create a gentle steam that soothes the body, relaxes the mind, and uplifts the spirit.

Why cedar?
    •    Naturally aromatic, releasing grounding forest notes that calm the nervous system
    •    Antimicrobial by nature—keeping the water pure without harsh chemicals
    •    Inviting warmth that softens muscles and melts away stress

This tub is more than just a soak, it’s an immersion in wellness, aligning with our belief that the simplest, most natural practices bring the deepest healing.

Here’s to bathing in wood, water, and wonder.

A Big Shift

This season marks a time of firsts—stepping fully into new rhythms and places.

For the first time, I’ll be splitting my days between the quiet life of gardens and herbs, and the steady pulse of New York City.

First time commuting daily.
First time riding the subway with books in my bag and Sanskrit on my mind.
First time calling a corner of the city home—even part-time.
Columbia is not just a destination, but a doorway. It is the start of a new chapter where learning, living, and moving all take on fresh shapes.

The garden remains my grounding, but the city asks me to expand, to grow in ways that only a “big shift” can invite.

To our wonderful Everveda enthusiasts and clients, we will remain open Thursday afternoons through Saturdays. Keep checking into www.everveda.com for new product offerings that have been handcrafted from our gardens!

Here’s to embracing firsts—with equal parts curiosity and courage.

Basil ! Three Expressions of a Sacred Plant

Not all basil is the same… each variety carries its own spirit, flavor, and healing qualities. Today in the EverVeda garden we celebrate three:

Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum)

Flavor: Bright, sweet, clove-like. The familiar basil of pesto and Mediterranean dishes.

Medicinal value: Cooling, anti-inflammatory, supportive for digestion. Traditionally used to calm the stomach and uplift the mind.

Greek Basil (Ocimum basilicum var. minimum)

Flavor: Compact leaves with a peppery-sweet sharpness. Bold in small doses.

Medicinal value: Carminative (soothes gas and bloating), mildly antimicrobial, and stimulating for the appetite and circulation.

Thai Basil (Ocimum basilicum var. thyrsiflora)

Flavor: Sweet with a licorice-anise note. Adds depth to curries and stir-fries.

Medicinal value: Warming, digestive, clears respiratory passages, awakens the senses. Traditionally used for coughs, colds, and mental clarity.

Though their tastes differ, all basils share a lineage of clarity, digestion, and upliftment. In Ayurveda, basil (Tulsi’s cousin) is known to clear the mind, kindle agni (digestive fire), and open the breath.

Which basil calls to you—sweet, sharp, or spiced? 🍃

Śāstra (शास्त्र) ✨

In these times, the word śāstra is often defined narrowly as “religious scripture” or “text.” But that is not all it is at its heart.

Sometimes we wonder: can we not simply feel the truth, without turning to authoritative texts to confirm it?

The Sanskrit root “śās” means to teach, to guide, to discipline.

From this, śāstra holds many shades of meaning:
Śāstra as guide: A lamp held on the path, illuminating what the mind cannot yet see.
Śāstra as discipline: The framework that trains our being—yoga-śāstra, āyurveda-śāstra.
Śāstra as authority: Wisdom tested and carried across generations.
Śāstra as living word: Not a book on a shelf, but a dialogue between seeker, teacher, and truth itself.

To believe in śāstra is not to follow blindly or give up questioning—it is to balance śraddhā (trust) with yukti (reason), allowing the text to open its meaning in time.

Perhaps the deepest śāstra is not found only in books, but in the garden, in the body, in the breath… in everything that gently disciplines us toward wisdom.

What is your living śāstra right now?

Today was a full-circle kind of day

We were graced with a visit from .Cummins who once brought her healing hands and luminous heart to EverVeda as one of our beloved therapists — and who now walks the path of a nurse, herbalist, and radiant mother of two.

She arrived to gather armfuls of green, with a baby on her hip…and left with a basket brimming with fresh herbs, still tending to the world with the same grace, laughter, and medicine that made her such a treasured part of our EverVeda family.

Watching her walk our garden paths again — this time with her own little one in tow — was a beautiful reminder of how the seeds we plant, in gardens and in hearts, continue to grow.

Here’s to the healers, the mothers, the wise women making the world more beautiful — one touch, one leaf, one love-filled moment at a time. 💫

Sanskrit Word Spotlight: Śraddhā (श्रद्धा)

Root meaning: śrat (truth) + dhā (to place or hold)

Literal sense: “To place one’s heart in truth.”

Though often translated as faith, śraddhā goes far beyond belief. It speaks to the inner orientation of a person—the values, principles, and truths we choose to align with, whether consciously or unconsciously.

In the Bhagavad Gītā (17.1–3), Krishna reminds us that each person is shaped by their śraddhā:
“Yo yacchraddhaḥ, sa eva saḥ.”
“As one’s faith is, so they are.”

Śraddhā is not passive belief—it’s the current of trust that moves us.

It shapes how we love, act, pray, serve, and strive. It can be sattvic (clear and luminous), rajasic (driven and ambitious), or tamasic (confused and inert), depending on our inner state.

As humans, our task is not just to have śraddhā, but to refine it—to align it with truth, dharma, and the deeper call of the heart.

Three Faces of Chamomile in the EverVeda Garden🌼

Did you know not all chamomile is the same?
Our garden is graced by three unique varieties, each with its own beauty, medicine, and magic:

Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)
Low-growing and deeply calming, this gentle flower is our go-to for emotional ease. Known for its nervine and antispasmodic actions, we love it in facial steams, tummy-soothing teas, and as a fragrant ally in oil infusions.

German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Taller and sweeter-scented, German chamomile is powerfully anti-inflammatory and helps with everything from digestive distress to irritated skin. It’s the one we reach for when crafting calming teas, compresses, and herbal syrups.

Dyer’s Chamomile (Anthemis tinctoria)
A golden burst of sunshine, this variety isn’t typically used internally, but its vibrant blooms yield a natural yellow dyewe love for coloring scarves and ritual cloth. It’s also a magnet for bees and pollinators!

Each chamomile offers something sacred — soothing the nerves, easing the gut, coloring the world.
Come sit with them awhile.

NASYA at EverVeda:
Nourishment for the Mind + Senses

At EverVeda, Nasya is more than just a drop of oil in the nose — it’s a deeply therapeutic experience that supports the brain, breath, sinuses, and spirit.

In Ayurveda, the nose is the gateway to consciousness. Through it flows Prana — the life force that governs clarity, perception, and vitality.

Our Nasya treatment begins with a gentle facial steam, opening the subtle channels of the head and sinuses. A warm, rhythmic face and neck massage follows — softening tension and preparing the tissues.
Then, herbal oils are carefully administered into the nasal passages to clear, moisten, and energize the upper channels.

This is not your daily nasya.
Daily nasya is a lovely self-care ritual — just 2–3 drops of oil after abhyanga to keep the sinuses lubricated and calm the mind.

Nasya at EverVeda is deeper.
It’s a cleansing and rejuvenating therapy that:
– Improves oxygenation and mental clarity
– Relieves congestion, allergies, and chronic dryness
– Clears emotional stagnation in the head + throat
– Supports nervous system balance and sleep

Whether you’re feeling foggy, anxious, congested, or simply depleted — Nasya gently brings you back to center.

This treatment is especially supportive in seasonal transitions and for those with Vata or Kapha imbalances.
Available at EverVeda by appointment.
Let us support you in clearing the pathways of breath, thought, and presence.

July’s Festival of flowers🌸
From Garden to Cup

These radiant blooms — calendula, lavender, chamomile, and jasmine — were gathered fresh from the garden this morning, glowing with the gentle power of summer medicine.

The colors alone are healing. But together in tea? They become a nervine, digestive, and skin-loving elixir — gently calming, opening the heart, and restoring the senses.

Here’s a simple way to sip your blossoms:

Fresh Flower Infusion for Calm + Radiance
Ingredients (per cup):
– 3–4 fresh calendula petals (not the green base)
– 2–3 sprigs of lavender
– 2–3 chamomile blossoms
– 2–3 jasmine flowers (night-blooming or edible day jasmine)

Instructions:
1. Lightly rinse the flowers if needed.
2. Add them to a cup or teapot and pour hot (not boiling) water over them.
3. Cover and steep for 7–10 minutes.
4. Strain and sip slowly — best enjoyed outdoors or at the altar.
Optional: Add raw honey or a drop of rose water for a soft floral boost.

This blend soothes the nervous system, calms Pitta, supports skin clarity, and gently opens the heart chakra.
Grown with care. Gathered with reverence. Steeped in stillness.🌼
