Spathodea campanulata, commonly known as the African tulip tree, has a long history of use in traditional African medicine. Various parts of the plant are used to treat a range of ailments.

Bark: The bark is commonly used for the treatment of body pains, chest pains, sore eyes, iritis, conjunctivitis, dysentery, and stomach ache. The pulp of the bark is also applied to the skin to treat diseases like herpes and sores.
Leaves: Leaves and leaf extracts have anti-bacterial properties and are used in traditional medicine to treat wounds and burns. Leaf decoctions are also used for pain, inflammation, constipation, dysentery, kidney disease, urethra inflammation, gonorrhoea, and as an antidote against animal poisons.
