On Thursday, we welcomed more than 200 individuals to Niagara Hospice for our Light-a-Life memorial event. It was a truly meaningful evening - filled with remembrance, connection, reflection, and love. The program took place under our Dominic Lariccia Family Pavilion, a gathering place that made the night even more special. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
The candles pictured represent a heartfelt tribute in which attendees were invited to light a candle for their loved one and place it on our Light-a-Life display. The moment was both moving and memorable.
A big thank you to everyone who made the evening possible, including Wendt’s Propane, Cindy Sue & Bryan – Musical Duo, Naptime Kraftin, Tim Buhr’s Christmas Trees, Tim Hortons, and our incredible Niagara Hospice Volunteer Department staff and volunteers.
Last but certainly not least, the Light-a-Life program was thoughtfully planned and coordinated by our Bereavement and Events Departments - a beautiful collaboration that reflects how wonderfully our Niagara Hospice family works together. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and hard work.
May you find peace, comfort, and hope this holiday season.

Thank you to our Just Desserts Volunteers for bringing so much holiday magic and cheer - and the yummy treats, too. 🍪 It was such a lovely time!

MANY thanks to our friends at the Kenan Quilters' Guild! We received a beautiful donation of dozens of handmade stockings for our Niagara Hospice House patients. They are beautiful! Thank you so much for thinking of our patients at the holidays, and for your generosity!
Shown are a couple of the members of this talented group who delivered the stockings, as well as a small sampling of their beautiful work. What a wonderful way to bring holiday cheer into Hospice House!

According to givingtuesday.org, "GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good."
Generosity comes in many forms; for some, it is donating to a cause near and dear to their heart. For others, it is giving of their time and talents through volunteering. Sometimes, it may come by way of sharing your experience with others. Today, we highlight a few Ways to Give to Niagara Hospice:
The Grateful Heart Award - a way for our patients & families to give thanks to Niagara Hospice staff for exhibiting excellence in care, embracing the mission and values of Niagara Hospice, and making the hospice journey meaningful. To nominate staff, visit www.niagarahospice.org/grateful-heart-award
Volunteers are integral to Niagara Hospice, and make such a difference in the lives of so many! If you would like to learn more about volunteering, please visit www.niagarahospice.org/volunteer
Throughout the year, we are amazed at the generosity of our community. Many individuals and groups host an event benefitting Niagara Hospice. You can learn more here: www.niagarahospice.org/host-it-for-hospice-2
You can share your Niagara Hospice experience with others, and help us get the word out about what hospice care is all about. You can share your story here: www.niagarahospice.org/family-stories
And, for anyone who would like to donate to us, please know your donation supports our mission of "providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time." You can do so by visiting www.niagarahospice.org/donate
Whatever way you choose to give, we THANK YOU for being part of this "generosity movement."

As National Hospice & Palliative Care Month comes to a close, we would like to share a special story with you. Two years ago, thousands of Niagara County students colored butterflies for our “Thinking of You” campaign.
This fall, the impact of one special butterfly made its way back to us - along with a message of gratitude from a patient’s family. Their message led to a connection with a local school and a heartfelt tribute now on display for students, staff, and families. You can read "When Kindness Takes Flight: The Lasting Impact of a Simple Butterfly" here. www.niagarahospice.org/2025/11/butterflystory
Butterflies colored by thousands of student from Niagara County schools make a big impact on Niagara Hospice patients and their loved ones.

National Family Caregivers Month is a time to recognize the dedication, time, and love that goes into being the caregiver of a loved one. We appreciate all you do - day in and day out – to provide support, comfort and care.
Every year, our Volunteer Department coordinates an amazing effort to say “thank you” to these incredible individuals. Our dedicated volunteers gathered, assembled and delivered over 190 “Care for the Caregiver” packages throughout Niagara County. Each package included some self-care items as well as special bookmarks and beautifully handmade butterfly sun catchers. We are truly grateful to our volunteers for their hard work and their commitment to brightening the day of our caregivers and bringing this initiative to life.
And to all caregivers - thank you. We appreciate you this month and every month of the year.

From our Niagara Hospice family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.
During this season of gratitude, we pause to reflect on the love, support, and connections that make life meaningful. We know that not everyone has their loved ones by their side today, and our hearts are with those who are missing someone special. We are deeply honored to care for you and your loved ones, and we thank you for trusting us during life’s most important moments.
We are grateful for the countless individuals, foundations, businesses, community groups and partners who have supported our mission throughout the past 37 years.
Niagara Hospice exists today because of the commitment and expertise of our staff, the compassion and dedication of our volunteers, and the generosity and trust of our community, and we THANK YOU.

Niagara Hospice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving all of Niagara County, began its grassroots movement in 1980 when the Reverend Robert Cook of the Town of Tonawanda gathered a group of concerned citizens, including co-founder and current Niagara Hospice board member Patricia Evans, to discuss the feasibility of developing a hospice program for Niagara County.
As a result of that first meeting, the first board of directors was formed in 1984 and the organization became incorporated as an Educational Association.
In 1986, a Certificate of Need was presented to the New York State Department of Health by the board president Patricia Evans and in June 1988, Niagara Hospice, Inc. was licensed to serve its first home care patients.
Since then, Niagara Hospice has been privileged to serve more than 25,000 Niagara County residents and their families. Thanks to a dedicated and hard-working staff, volunteer corps and partners in care, Niagara Hospice has evolved to meet the increasing needs of the seriously ill and their families.
Niagara Hospice is the only hospice in Western New York accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).
What is Hospice?
Hospice is a way of caring for patients with end-of-life illnesses and supporting their family and loved ones through the illness and dying process. At Niagara Hospice, we believe every day is a gift and we value quality of life for each and every patient. As the only hospice provider in Niagara County, our staff and volunteers take pride in their compassionate service to others. Just one call to Niagara Hospice provides loved ones the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care they need.
Hospice care is appropriate for people with any advanced stage illness, not just cancer, where the prognosis is a life expectancy of approximately six months or less - if the illness were to run its normal course. Some patients receive hospice care beyond six months. In fact, studies show that people with end-of-life illnesses who choose hospice care often live longer than patients who do not elect hospice services.*
Hospice is specialized care for the terminally ill. We also provide support services for family members and other caregivers of individuals faced with end of life challenges. Niagara Hospice has proudly served Niagara County residents since 1988.

Niagara Hospice's dedication to providing the highest level of care is recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).The ACHC has awarded Niagara Hospice with its accreditation for hospice care for demonstrating a commitment to providing quality care and services to consumers through
compliance with ACHC's nationally recognized standards for accreditation.
Niagara Hospice is a not-for-profit charitable 501(c)(3) organization recognized by both New York State and the Internal Revenue Service.
Hope and Hospice
Hospice gives hope for comfort when a cure is no longer feasible; hope that a secure, familiar care setting can be enjoyed; hope for personal dignity and freedom from unwanted procedures. Additionally, Hospice gives hope that the family will be nurtured and supported, even after the death of their loved one. Many of our families have told us that choosing Hospice allowed them more time to be together.
Every family's situation is unique. You do not have to face this illness alone - we are only a phone call away. When medical science can't add more days to life, Hospice adds more life to every day.
Let our family help yours!
